I have a well written article for a very popular coupon code found at - http://esmelaia.com

It has a poor backlink profile which I am trying to naturally improve over time to get better trust and authority and better anchor text profile.

Someone mentioned that another factor that maybe causing a lack of rankings is poor on page SEO... yoast SEO says it is fine so am a little confused.

Any ideas???

I don't understand your query here. Anchor texts matter when they are coming from another site to your site. What it has to do with your on-page factors?

What Yoast SEO says doesn't matter much.

You say it has a poor backlink profile. That is your problem. Links are the #1 ranking factor by a mile. It's not even close.

I will never prefer the Yost SEO plugin, i always prefer SEO Ultimate.
The most drawback of yost seo plugin is if you have same keywords (only one) and if you have the same in Title, description & in page content then only it will be the green sign.
i wanted to know if you are targeting more than one keywords then how you'll do that in yost?

That is a lie. They are not equally important. Links are far more important than anything you do on page.

I should be agreeing with these idiots. Makes ranking easier for the rest of us, right?

You need back links. It is the main factor that search engine to use calculate site rating. If you can't make them naturally - try to buy them.

Definitely could be your SEO. How much work have you done in that regard? Do you know what keywords you're targeting? Have you incorporated those keywords into your content?

If you have any images, have you changed the "alt" and "description" attributes?

Don't assume that you're going to rank well if you don't optimize your page first.

Instead of Back links as well as Instead of On-pages changes go for micro-blogging of your selected keywords.

Second Thing, make your content eye catching and engaging and add up your internal links with in it . Content should be so simple and manipulating that user gets forced to click on your inbound link. Thats it your work is done. Now just See the Results!!
