I have 8 sites that are PR3 & 4 and I want to link these into a new site I own, my question is since I own all the sites will there be a penelty from Google if I link them all into 1 site?

If they're all on the same IP address or share registration information, then maybe. Penalty may be the wrong word though. Also, what is the real benefit of this?

All the sites are respected in their niches (different pet terms) and the new site is a more general pet site so they are all relevent and I figured the good PR from my other sites would help rank the new site quicker

How do I get links in my Signature?

I used this technique to get a site indexed. Don't know if I got much PR juice though. I own both domains and the existing one is PR3

The vague statement from Google is that this would be a natural link (ie OK) if it wasn't being done for SEO purposes.

In other words, they won't penalize BigConglomerate.com for linking to SubsidiaryA.com, SubsidiaryB.com, etc. but they may very well penalize JoeTheSeo.com for linking to his MFA dog training site.

    Yup.

Links have to be posted as part of an editorial decision.

When linking, you should make sure the sites are related. It doesn't matter if they are all yours. In fact, it is a great advantage for you because you can control the link juice via internal linking. Good luck to you!

Please provide some evidence -- ANY evidence -- for the sites needing to be "related".

This is an urban folklore tale. What *is* true is that if the anchor text (if any) is relevant to the page that the link points at, then the link will be more beneficial for ranking the pointed-at page, but that is *all*.

So would you recomend I link from my exsisting sites to the new one so long as I write a relevent piece of text for each site to include the link in?

I would go ahead and link, and make sure that the links have an anchor text with the keywords that you want to rank your new site for.

Yes, hosting from different IP and link to that new site should help you to achieve good ranking. Go ahead. Best of Luck!

  • I've been doing it for a long time from my higher PR sites; I have not been able to discern any problem or penalty.

It wouldn't result in a penalty unless this is a heavily practiced pattern. However, such links are most likely to be disregarded. Could also raise flags in combination with other questionable practices I guess.
