what exactly is google slap? De-index or...

Is it no longer appearing AT ALL for specified/linked keywords, or is it being de-indexed? my particular site is still indexed, but is nowhere for the keywords it was just ranking for a couple weeks ago. This has been going on for a couple weeks, so the "dance" thing I don't think is it. I have been dutifully building backlinks - slooowly - but building and it seems to be hurting not helping.

Any ideas about what is going on? something G doesn't like? I'm only doing white hat BTW.

    Many times when people refer to being "Google slapped" they are talking about paid Adwords PPC and it's a totally different thing.

    How new is your site? You could be in the sandbox. Sometimes new sites start off well, then go down or almost disappear in rankings for awhile then come back up.

    If you are certain you have not done anything wrong, like linking to bad neighborhoods or using hidden text, then try to just be patient and don't worry. Keep gradually building links and your site will probably come back up.
