Hello,

Can I change the focus/ main keyword for an article of my blog? Will it hurt the SEO of my blog?
Please advise.

Thanks & Best Regards

  • I also would like to know an answer to this.

Reason: some blog articles just won't rank on the keyword that I chose, so I would like to change the keyword (which means changing among other things the title tag).

For example: my blog article about 'class management' doesnt get ranked at all, so I want to change the focus keyword to 'how to get my students to be silent'.

    Is it better to...
    A) Cut the text from the blog article, delete that blog article and paste the text into a new article with the new focus key word?
    B) Keep the article and just update it so that it has a new focus keyword?

No, it will not hurt the SEO of your blog. The reason is that your blog is continuously updated with fresh and unique content that's why it is a major plus for you.

In my experience, It will not hurt your blog SEO. But it will help you to show up your article update on google.

If you are going to change the main keyword of your article, you should make the changes on your content according to the keyword which you are going to change. otherwise you article will lost the rankings from the search results. But Google doesn't consider the keyword tags nowadays. So don't consider the keyword tags. More focus on content quality.

You mean you want to change the content of the article?

The reason I ask is so many people here rely on the Yoast SEO plugin and think they are actually doing SEO by following its silly checkmarks. If you are just talking about changing the "focus" word in Yoast, it won't make a bit of difference. Google has no idea what you selected in the first place.

Now if you are talking about making edits to the actual article, yes it could possibly impact your current rankings either positively or negatively for tons of different keywords.

Anytime that you change content on a page, Google may react to it.

    • Thanks!! Should I also delete that blog post, preserve the text and publish it as a fresh blog post?
