Good explanation "Crabb" - I was going to type basically the same but you saved me a job

Easy does it with the backlinks, just drip them in over the first couple of months and you can get there pretty quick.

I made first page in a month for a niche using a wordpress blog and just keywordluv links - I did about 5 a day.

A month after that I have an article submitter dripping out articles to directories at the rate of 50 a day and I'm making my way up the page..

I created and run the only truly automatic website backlinking system (3 years and still going strong!) We provide HIGH PR links (ALL done manually by my own staff) every month on complete autopilot (for the Client). These are now posted from UNIQUE IP addresses. When you're sick of hours creating backlinks AND STILL getting nowhere consider this hands free service. (WF Coupon code JH1960) Website | WF Thread | Support Desk

It's a large series of algorithms that help Google establish how trustworthy a new or relaunched domain is. There isn't a single off/on switch as the name would have you believe but 1000's of binary switches that may or may not contribute to how well your site ranks.

It also results in a lot of people mistaking coincidence for causality when it comes to things like link building and on-site SEO.

The Google Sandbox is an alleged filter placed on new websites and kept lower than expected in searches, prior to being given full value for its incoming links and content. The Sandbox acts as a de facto probation for sites, possibly to discourage spam sites from rising quickly, getting banned, and repeating the process.

The Google SandBox is a metaphorical term coined by SEOs and Webmasters, not associated with Google, to explain why most new Websites have very poor rankings in Google Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS). The existence of Google SandBox has not yet been clearly proved but there seem to have some changes to Google's Algorithm sometime around March 2004 that denies top ranking for newly launched web sites. Of course, there are exceptions and many Web pages have made it to the top of the SERP in spite of the sandbox, but the sandbox seems to be an inevitable page rank dampening concept.

The term "Sandbox Effect" applies to the idea that all new websites have their ratings placed in a holding tank until such time is deemed appropriate before a ranking can commence.

However the website is not hindered as much as the links that are reciprocated from other users. Newer links that are created are put on a "probationary" status until again they pickup in rank from other matured sites or placed directly by an ad campaign. The idea behind the hindrance is to prevent a fast ranking to occur on a new website. The usual holding period seems to be between 90 and 120 days before a site would start obtaining rank from reciprocal or back linking.

"All new websites have their ratings placed in a holding tank" ...and this is how a myth propagates. Good grief people, don't buy into this imaginary hogwash.

The first rule of SEO is that search engines rank pages not websites. Yes, there are trust factors that effect new pages and your new pages will earn trust over time. Your whole website is not selected and "placed in a holding tank". All pages on all websites must earn this trust.

The problem with describing this as if your website has been selected to be "placed in a holding tank" is that folks spend an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out what they did wrong and what they must do to correct it.

Actually this sounds like a really good thing to get all my competitors involved in, can someone signup my competitors to the "Waste all my time on SEO myths" newsletter, please.
