A small tip on niche selection

Hello World. I've been fighting depression and anxiety for the latter half of September and I expect it to carry over into October. But I'm feeling well enough for this. Tonight I want to share something with you guys about niche selection. I'm not gonna go tell you just how to pick a niche, but rather something about it. I know the experts know about this already but for the newbies this will be beneficial.

You see, there is this thing called Online Commercial Intent, or OCI for short. In a nutshell, this is the probability that someone will buy whatever it is they are looking for through an online transaction. It really is common sense. When exploring your niche, think about this: Will a person buy this online and wait for it to come in a few days or is it possible that they can make a quick trip to Wal-Mart, Family Dollar, Dollar General, K-Mart, or wherever and get it in their hands immediately?

For example, school supplies. This has a very low OCI. This stuff is dirt cheap and is an easy Wal-Mart trip to get. Calculators, backpacks, pencils, paper, notebooks, etc. They shouldn't have to order those online, pay shipping costs (which sometimes could be MORE than the product) and wait days to get it.

Other things with a low OCI: The smaller computer supplies (mouse, keyboard, and speakers), groceries (yeah, there are places that sell groceries online), calendars, cordless phones, over the counter medicine, among other things.

Now for the other side of the coin. Let's look at exercise equipment. Sure there's exercise equipment you can find offline, but the exercise equipment you can find online has far more choices. For instance, if you want the genuine Bowflex machine as opposed to the cheap imitation you can find at Sears, you need to get online to get it.

Small tip from yours truly, add this to your backpack (no pun intended) and profit.

No post that imparts some wisdom is pointless.

Had you titled the post, "FREE BEER!" the clamoring of our hooves would have shaken your home to it's foundation.

You made good points that will undoubtedly spare someone folly.

Glad you're on the mend...hang in there.

I appreciate your tip and have to say it does make a lot of sense. For myself, it's a 1/2hr trip one way to the nearest WalMart so a lot of my purchases are done online (but I look for the free shipping ).

Thanks for the tip again and I hope that you get to feeling better soon.

Thanks . A great topic. SInce using a couple niche tools I wonder exactly how they get the data to come up with the numbers. You point makes sense just wondering HOW it translates into the OIC numbers in the niche tools. One tool I use rarely gives the OIC, usually responds "NO response".
