Reaquainting myself in the game- advice needed pls

Hi there! It has been a while since I have been active in internet marketing, and now for my new job I am trying to increase searchability, seo, advertise on the net etc. Any starting points for someone trying to rapidly reaquaint themselves in these areas and learn the best new methods to increase website traffic, advertise and increase searchability?

So far I have been searching through search engine directories to see where we are not listed so that profiles can be created on these search engines, however I know that there is a great deal more that can be done. We already have accounts with google, local search engines eg, truelocal and the major search engines, so after I've made sure we have accounts with as many search engines as possible the next step is of course search engine optimisation. I am already in the process of creating accounts with hair and beauty forums, as well as drafting press releases to be posted, reviews etc.

Anything that anyone can think to add would be wonderful, but the main thing is to learn as quickly as possible how to best utilise the tools that are available to internet marketers, and any advice that any of you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance! x
