Hi There

My name is mark, I am new to the forum, kind of new to seo and young, be nice please, its not big getting rude from behind a computer screen.

I have been studying seo for a while now and I am in a fairly un competitive industry, I am not trying to optimise and rank in the same way allot of you on the forums do with regards to selling and getting clicks.

From what I can gather links seem to be nearly everything if you want to get ranked, so why do people pay so mcuh money for people to 'optmise' their websites?

I have seo compnaies working on my sites for ages and uno what, they didnt build barely any links, so wht was the point?

I now run all of my websites myself, I build the links and optimse them.

The quesiton I have now is this:

When does the 'optimisation' of a website really come into play? Is it when there are millions of other websites related, all with similarly good links, is it then that having the right amount of keywords, unique content, keywords in the title and other stuff really matter?

Thats all realy, thanks.

Well, gaining authority links from power bloggers will help you rank high. The question is how to do this. FTC today closes the freebie way. For example, giving a blogger a copy of your software in return for a link.

Still, you could create some XLent content and post it on social sites in hopes of getting links. OK my take on that is that most links you get are poor quality thru digg and other similar sites. Also, digg traffic does not convert well.

That said, you can go to conferences and give power bloggers incentives to link to you.

To clarify, this method is not closed to you - the blogger will simply need to disclose that they received the product in exchange for a testimonial. If a testimonial is not involved, i.e.; merely a backlink, then that still works fine as well.

SEO games need more time to work. It's not one day work. The higher the competition of the keyword.. the more time for you to do just the backlink job. It's better for you to find a seo book before you start implimenting the seo method. To get the clear idea

Which is easier to do? Get links, especially quality authority links that will help you rank for competitive search terms, or futz around with the meta-tags on your (or a client's) website?

Hi and thanks for your reply

I will give you a little insight into what I do.

I provide a services across the UK, I no lots of people search for the service but there are very few sites on the internet providing the service, thats where i come in.

Most of my competitors have like 66 or so links for each keyword, even the ones that have say 200 are links like this 'www.mydomain.com', if they have anchor text they arent of any great benifit either as they are like this 'alans window cleaning services'.

To top it off the links are not from sites with ANY pr at all, may one if ur lucky but thats it.

I have been having a great deal of success with article link building, posting on blogs.

I have started to use some other methods and will be using some of the packets available too, only adding sites with relevance.

Just wanted to no whether the seo really has allot to do with anything if I end up having a massive amount more links than my competitors and all the sites in the industry are 'optimised' roughly as good as each other?

Do you think getting too many links from high pr sites straight away will cause somekind of flag (even if the links are justified), if the other sites in my industry dont have any hih pr links?

I am starting a business that is a service, not trying to get as many high value clicks as possible or trying to sell something online, I need phone calls!

Could someone explain exactly what this forum is for, I have found some really quality info but I think the whole theme of the forum is slightly different than what I am doing, that doesnt matter though does it?

    Thanks

    Mark
