Would you go head to head up against another Adsense website?

Let's say that you have researched a keyword phrase. The numbers look good.

But...there is another Adsense web site in top position (number 1 in the SERP's). They are not particularly strong as a site. You deem them to be beatable.

But would you go up against them? Why or why not?

My concerns are two fold.

One...they might get mad if you beat them and start clicking up a storm on your ads causing you trouble with Google. Of course they know that you might do the same so this is of minimal concern but still...Google is massive. They don't get too involved in ironing out conflicts between little Adsense folks. If they get involved at all. If your competitor causes the abuse first...Google will come down on your site. And if you are a good guy and won't do the same to them...well you go down the drain and they just come back to their top dog position again.

Two...perhaps of more concern if the fact that Adsense sites are not rocket science. Your competitor can just copy your text, which you carefully spent time researching and hand writing, run it through an article rewriting sofware, and copy it. Using your own text against you.

Pretty soon it becomes a slugging match between two Adsense sites that are near identical.

So given the concerns I have indicated would you still go against another Adsene site?

    That's business.

    Competition is normal.

Maybe someone may feel annoyed and click-attack you or copy your content, but someone would have to be VERY immature (and not fit for business, IMO) if they were to do that. I can't honestly imagine many people doing that.

Competing with other sites is completely normal, even in a micro niche development environment

    3 words....Free Market Economy.

If its number one then its upto the publisher to ensure its stable enough or hard enough to beat, I suppose thats just tough luck. Besides, you don't normally think like that when you try and compete with the top sites anyway...lol

Unless it was a site where I knew the person or owner or it was someone I knew in the industry then maybe out of respect I wouldnt but generally, if my sotes don't make money, I dont eat and my family dont get fed....its as simple as that!

    Who cares?

If it's a viable market I'll go after it no matter what other sites are there...

Thanks for the input. I guess my concerns are not that warranted then.

I am new to Adsense so you all will have to forgive me if I asked about this but although I am in complete agreement that business is business, in the real world, I wouldn't neccessarily set up a shoe repair shop right next to another one on the same block (niche) either LOL.

Not if there was another town (another keyword phrase niche) where I could set up a pet store all by myself.

    I say "Go for it"!

The person who puts in the most effort should be rewarded with the most number of clicks and the biggest paycheck..

Just be the person that puts in the biggest effort, outrank them and get the clicks..

    Its that simple

Carlos, there is no real question here. Of course you do it!

Google should have decent click fraud measures in place. You should however keep analytics on your site and monitor activity, and report any discrepancies.

You're wasting time asking, just do it! That's how you get better and there is no better way to learn than to do it.

I appreciate the further input. Just so you know I am doing it (as in I am already registering domains and building Adsense sites) though perhaps not the way some here might prefer that I just "do it" LOL.

Lest anyone reading this thread in the future think that success in Adsense is all about just "doing it" let me say for their benefit that one does not and should not just "do it" as if "just doing it" will assure one success.

Just "doing it" without thinking about what one is doing is well...a whee bit foolish if you ask me.

"Just do it" advice notwithstanding I will continue to do it the way I feel most comfortable doing it. One step at a time asking questions along the way as I bump into things I am not sure about. The best way to learn!

Yes I would also say go ahead to beat the no. 1 spot. Don't over stress yourself worrying too much what may happen. Once you do that it will just stagnate your business and you cannot freely do the things you ought to do.

I have done it before. I think the internet is big enough for 2 adsense site. In fact I have competed with a few sites that have adsense and is targeting the same keyword. Just do your best to make your site useful to your readers and differentiate yourself from your competitors.

While you might not set up a shoe repair shop on the same block, you would set up a fast food restaurant or gas station on the same block.

Guess what I'm saying is it's apples and oranges here. If you leave KWPs because someone else is there, you'll eventually limit the heck out of your business.

This is business not a fraternity.

I'll give you an example. I found some KWPs that I want to target and there is already a site using John's template (they are #3-#7). Do I care? No. I'm going in. If I get a listing under them fine and if it's higher, great.

Don't get all wrapped up in #1 vs #2 battle hypothetical scenarios. All you need is a better selling description for the target market in the SERP and you'll get more clicks regardless of being 1 or 2.

I understand your fears and concerns, but let me ask you this -
if we all listed out all the fears inherent in everything, what
progress do you think we would make? None! I'd say - go
ahead and compete against the site. I doubt if they will do
something as drastic as clicking on your ads to get you banned.

If they do, does that bring them automatically to the top of
the rankings? They are better off doing other things to get
them to the top, rather than plotting your downfall,

First off I am not walking around in fear as you imply. Wringing my hands in a woe is me attitude afraid to make a move. That is not where I am coming from at all.

Yes I had some concerns and still wonder about some things but so what? Am I sitting here crippled by concerns such that I can't make a move? Far from it.

I just registered two more domains today and will going head to head against whatever sites I find in that niche. That's just the nature of the Adsense game we all play.

But...if I have a choice between a niche with a top Adsense player in top position and one without Adsense in sight, assuming all the numbers are good, I will at this point choose the niche without Adsense in the top spots. That's just me. Part of my "system" if you will. Maybe that's a bad system. Maybe not. For now it's a system I am content to stick with.

Thanks again for the input from everyone.

      Carlos
