I was just reading Jonathan Volk's blog and there's a great quest post that outlines the steps for doing PPC affiliate marketing.

It's a good read, so thought I'd share.

PPC Affiliate Marketing 101

This post comes from Ryan Gray of SuperAffiliateTwins.com. Ryan Gray is an affiliate marketer that along with his two business partners (John Kirkpatrick and identical twin Brother Richard Gray) make upwards of $600,000+ a month using various marketing techniques.

At every conference I attend, I'm asked at least once how it's possible to begin promoting CPA offers via pay-per-click platforms. This prompted me to write this simple beginner's guide to pay-per-click marketing to give everyone out there a new look on how to promote CPA offers.
What do you think? Anything to add?

Thanks for posting this. I needed it. Am a newbie in pay per click and affiliate marketing and have used around $ 400 on google advertising with no conversion at all until I quit. This post has given me a new perspective and I think am going to give it one more shot.

I'm afraid your gonna have to give it more than one more shot. Pay per click is a beast that can take all your money an leave you with nothing until you finally master it. I don't think most people master it until they have spent quite a bit on it. You could get lucky right away but I doubt it.

I would suggest you read the AdWords professional docs that are available, this will give you the ins and outs (in theory) of how to run a structured campaign an in some ways puts you on the right foot.

To be successful in PPC takes time and experience. I'm quite suprised that you've had no conversions with tht akind of spend, but it does depend on the product.

My advice would be to firstly, take a step back and understand PPC properly. Dont believe all this hype, if it were true, I wouldve made a million in no time like the rest of the Warriors here.

Secondly, ensure that your campaigns are srtuctured correctly, this is where you can have so much click wastage. By this I mean, get your ad groups setup so you have the correct keywords in them. All must be relevant.

Ad Title, Ad Copy etc must all be relevant. Ensure that your landing pages also offer the same thing as your ad copy, if they dont, the user will disappear. Also, on your landing pages, do you have phone numbers etc? If so, how do you know this is coming from PPC? Just tighten up any holes.

Remember, its all about relevancy, relevancy and ermmm relevancy.

Good luck, you'll convert soon don't worry.

Oh, nearly forgot to mention, try and focus on your CTR that will give you an indication on how good your ads are.

Learning takes time and money, On one side a bad ppc test costs you $400, but a bad test in SEO can cost you 3 months.

personally i rather lose some money and adjust , than lose 3 months and adjust.

Oh I would agree that it's nice to promote CPA through pay per click because you will be assured of a very specific target audience you are searching for. Although ofcourse just like some of you, there are times that even if you are spending more to promote CPA's, still conversion is very little.

I suggest that every now and then, always try different advertisements. Try posting different PPC ads.. In short, just test everything and stick to the one which works best for you. :-)

I am very interested in seeing the completely transparent PPC case study so I can learn to structure my campaign better/properly as nettech says.

I did not see a sign up for notification of the PPC case study on superaffiliatetwins site.

John K, how can we be notified that the PPC case study is going to be shown/presented?

    Thanks,
    Frank C

As it happens, I'm writing a book on creating effective and profitable PPC campaigns. Should be ready in a few weeks. It touches on what you mention plus a whole lot more.

The link provided by the OP is just scratching the surface. Following that advice is not going to turn your campaign around.

Regarding Step 5 and having 4 different ads, I suggest two ads. More just dilutes the test. I will sometimes use three but very rarely.

PPC is not a beast, ignorance and being ill prepared is.

As for these guys, $600k a month is a very large total, but you're undoubtedly not getting anywhere near the full story of what it takes to get to that point.

The average IM new to affiliate marketing will not have the leverage to negotiate top tier payouts with partners, or get on CPA networks with more exclusive offers. Market and product saturation is another concern. If you score a custom deal with a partner in an uncrowded niche, or with a new, higher converting offer then, of course you're going to make a ton of money if you're skilled with PPC marketing. Payout and conversion is king. With those two factors going in your favor you can change the playing field quickly.

I guess I'm just trying to say, use your head. Adwords is incredibly easy to use, and if you set your "stops" and use Analytics, you're not going to wake up to a $2,000 charge for traffic you didn't mean to buy because you set your KW bid too high and no spend limit, or fraudulent click activity draining your balance. Do some KW and competitive research and you'll do alright, often better than alright because you'll continually look for new angles.

These guys are smart, don't get me wrong. Not a knock on them in any way. Just want people to understand, new or not, there's a million ways to make a million dollars and PPC is the perfect tool for finding that path if you use your head. So don't get discouraged because it didn't work the first few times, because it will.

    Hi,

PPC is a great way to earn money right away but it is something that I don't recommend long term specially google tend to ban affiliate sites.

PPC is great way to easily see what niches work though in which you can invest on them long term.
