i always hear about how keyword is important for SEO, and how your not supposed to over do it. but is there any rule of thumb for how many keyword to use in a post? and if you use many but they all sound natural and meaningful, would it still hurt you from the search engine perspective?? thank you in advance.

In Fact,Keyword is the basis on which SEO exists. So it is really important aspect.

I recommend you to write 800+ words posts because people like elaborated posts and there is big SEO motive behind it.You can insert wide range of keywords in different densities in the long text.Keep it at 2-3% for major keywords and also sprinkle minor keywords throughout your posts. As mentioned above by TheCrabb, make your blog posts rich in LSI factor by using proper synonyms but don't overdo it.To emphasize the keywords, you can bold them. But,make everything look natural.

Content is Still the King and it should be everyone's top priority.
