My website sells many different products. I have already purchased directory link submissions and that along with artlicle marketing and social bookmarking has gotten certain keywords in top 10 on google.

I'm about to purchase another directory submission package and my question is should I target keywords of products that I haven't in the past or continue to work the ones that are doing well.?

Article submission and bookmarking helps a lot especially for backlinks but for me, I choose the ones that has dofollow links and high PR.

    Yea I know that.
My question is about which keywords I should put in the directories.
I'm buying a package of about 4000 directory submissions.

Should I keep targeting the keywords rthat are ranking good or target keys that I have never targeted as much.

Dont worry about buying backlink submissions from directories, they dont hold any weight like they used to.

it really depends on the type of directories. if they are of decent value links through higher grade directories, it could be worth it. depending on your site strategy and keyword list and competition, all of these should be considered when forming any kind of link strategy (anchor text selection) including directories. as others suggested i would engage in other forms of link building like articles too.

If you are already ranking for your targeted keywords, I would split your next campaign between reinforcing those keywords and starting to gain new ones. Also, think of subtle variations in keywords instead of an entire new string of keywords. For example, if you are ranking for "bookmarketing" then try and reinforce that keyword, as well as going for "book markets" "novel promotion" "fiction marketing" etc.

I would go for article subbmisions mostly.Directories didn't do any good to me.
Or maybe it is only my experience?

Please guys read the first paragraph of my post. I said I already do article marketing and pinging and social bookmarking.

I KNOW that the backlinks from the directories are working but thank you for your opinions.
My question for the 3rd time is about choosing the keywords to focus on.

if your keywords are working don't use them again try to get varying keywords, this is natural

using to many of the same does you nothing

Google always says do what is natural to get the best results

Personally, I believe about 90% of Directories are of absolutely no use at all.

Sure you will get a backlink, and it may be a follow as well, but if you think Google isn't aware that websites are listing themselves in directories purely for SEO purposes, then I believe you are wrong!

And if you think that Google won't devalue these type of links, then again I believe you're wrong.

Whatever you do, if you're buying 4000 links, maybe sure you don't get them submitted in a short period of time.

The red flag will be raised if that happens (unless you had a huge number of links already).

It will be pretty obvious that it's being done for SEO purposes in that case.

And worse, in my experiences, you will find the vast majority of these backlinks will never show up (even in yahoo site explorer).

Make sure you use a throw away email address when you submit as well, you would not believe the amount of spam or "helpful offers" you get from these directories. I often wonder if anyone buys on the links these guys send out.

I have a list of between 50-250 of the free directory services ones that I use. Mind you I don't bother submitting them manually, I use a service on the Internet for that (pay someone to submit manually).

    Cheers

I would certainly target most of your new campaign on keywords that aren't already working for you. It would be better to get a broader reach of keywords ranking high than just a few. Of course on a few of those new links I would focus on the old links just to help solidify their position.

Also, to those that say directory submission is not important I have to disagree. Yes, some directories are not good for you, but Google still says in their webmaster guidelines to "Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!, as well as to other industry-specific expert sites." (http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35769)

If you submit to quality directories you will be just fine. Look for directories that have decent pagerank, have their internal pages cached, etc. They are out there.

What we do is submit to a few directories each week, usually new ones. We have a consistent track record of ranking for medium competitive keywords using this method, and normally we stay on one key phrase until it ranks well, and then change to a new one.
