Almost nothing showing in AdWords

I just launched my first campaign, which is an email submit. Payout is about $2, so I tried to keep my CPC down to $0.05. However, the Ads Diagnostic tool is telling me that like over 95% of my keywords are not showing for two reasons:

1. "Unknown" (all of my ads are still pending review... does this have anything to do with it?)
2. "Although your ad is showing, its rank is not high enough to place it on the first page of search results. My QSs are mostly 7 with a couple 10s."

I used the Keyword tool to find my keywords, and it told me that they had an estimated CPC of $0.05, so why is it that AdWords Editor is now saying that the first page bid estimate is ranging from $1-$2.50!?

Should I increase my max bid or is this normal when starting a campaign? If I need to increase my max bid, what is a reasonable amount given the $2 payout?

The keyword tool is just an estimate based on typical, average advertisers. Your first page bid estimate is based on your current QS and current price to make it to first page. You will need to improve your ads to improve your QS.

I would always suggest to work on your CTR but your campaign is really new. I would suggest in this case to increse your CPC slowly and gradually until you reach the first page. This is a classic pitfall people fall into when setting up PPC campaigns. Becuase your payout is $2, its a tough margin you're working against. Its normally a good idea to work in between somewhere so you can get a grasp of the CPC you need to pay per keyword. Its all a bit of tweaking and trial and error. Campaigns at inception are a pain...lol

    Good luck

Sorry for the late response. nettech, I'm considering abandoning this campaign. I'm really not sure what to do because I can't keep raising my max bid, and I'm not sure how to improve my QS since I'm direct linking. Since launching just under a week ago, I only have 370 impressions and one click. I even dumped in a bunch more keywords to no avail.

Direct linking has little to do with it. You must improve your CTR. You probably did not help yourself by dumping more keywords into the campaign.

LOL, thanks. Do they look at the CTR of the entire campaign or just the ad groups?

I have always struggled with AdWords and tend to throw it to the side and give it a while. Neat trick of trying to maximize your click through rates without giving up the bank

CTR is for each keyword-ad combination. If you have a group with relevant keywords, all you have to do is create an ad relevant to those keywords. Your QS is an indication of how well you are doing. Read more in the Adwords FAQ.
