Has anyone used Twitter to improve search engine rankings?

Do Tweets and Retweets on your web pages increase SERPs?

    Hi jjcali,

I have been experimenting with Twitter lately and I've noticed some amazing new trends. As the twitter user base grows there are entirely new business models cropping up all over the place. Some of them are based 100% on traffic from Twitter.

Twitter is a totally new communications platform. I certainly miss-underestimated the power and influence this application would yield when I first looked at it. I think most folks take a look and say to themselves "what's the big deal?"

What has fascinated me is that you can create an account, based on a topic of interest, and build a list of interested followers, without even having a website. When you combine a commercial website, you can communicate nearly instantly with your list sending a stream of traffic to your website, completely bypassing the search engines, email servers and other advertising mediums. I have discovered very successful websites that derive 100% of their traffic from Twitter.

Microblogging, Twitter in particular, is a deceptively simple platform that appears to hold the potential to transform society, very much the same way that email and blogging has done. Don't make the mistake of underestimating it!

I agree Twitter is an excellent communication platform. You bypass email server problems, spam complaints, etc.

I am not sure if Twitter can be used to improve search engine rankings (via tweets and retweets). Has anyone tested this?

I noticed the other day I have over 260 sites linking back to me via one tweet

I'm think it's not because Twitter can't improve your website in organic and link is nofollow. We know Twitter is nofollow site but this Social Networking Site is the best traffic maker. You should make your good reputation to gain more follower, Twitter is not only for promoting a site but you can interactive with other users whether it's you following as user or your followers to have more good reputation and will increase your followers. More followers are more traffic you have in a website.

A while back we were hearing how google was going to show tweets in results.
Anyone know if this has been done, or is still in the works?

Interesting ... Twitter can affect positively your Alexa rankings by sending visitors to your pages. Usage data is a sign of quality for Google and all the other search engines. If you can make people come to your site via Twitter, then this is an SEO advantage you cannot afford to miss.

Askloz - did the 260 sites link to your site or to your Twitter profile? What was your tweet about?
