Have I Been Sand-boxed?

Hey there,

maybe I'm interpreting the term wrong but... I have an article I have spent about 2 months building links to (added all links from both months of angela and pauls packets and social bookmarked) and it was swapping between position one and two for over a week (and was settled in second the last 4 days). All of a sudden, it's on page two a couple entries down... Can this be fixed or am I screwed?

Not sure what to make of it : /

Link building shouldn't hurt your site's rankings unless you're linking from bad sites.

I'm sure it's just the Google dance that Angela and Paul always mention when they send you your monthly packets. The solution would be to continue what you're doing and be patient...your site should come back strong given some time.

      Hi Branlan17,,

Yes this is the mythical "Sandbox Effect" that you may often hear about. Many people never notice it and most who do are like you. You have experienced the temporary boost from Google's freshness factor (QDF) and after this temporary boost wears off your page sinks to it's currently earned position.

There is nothing you can do to cause the "Sandbox Effect" and nothing you can do to avoid it. It is applied evenly to all web pages, and the only thing that alleviates the effect is the passage of time. Pages that have been around a while and stood the test of time have earned more "trust". This is what the so called "Sandbox Effect" is, a factor that values trusted pages more then new pages that haven't been around long enough to have earned trust.

Since there is nothing you can do to cause it, or avoid it, it makes no sense to even worry about it. Just go to work promoting your pages and the passage of time will take care of the "Sandbox Effect".

You shouldn't be wasting time backlinking to an article anyways when you could have just made a blog for whatever keyword term you're using and develop your site as an authority site. You'll get waaaay more sales this way and outrank articles easily.
