My website is climbing up on google. I don't want to ruin it. Is anchor keyword too much?

Hello guys,

About a while back i wrote a post about how i made $1.87 with my website which had pretty much been ignored by by. Then i was still gonna keep ignoring it until i found out that my chosen keyword had me at #40 without quotes in Google and #17 with quotes. Well, when i found out my ranking i got real excited because my competition is over a million. SO i decided to market it after all.

Well, it's been a week and i did some article marketing for backlinks. I had never done anchor text for my main keyword because i was a newbie( and still am) and didn't know the benefits of it. But within the last week that i did a few articles my website has jumped up the ladder and now i'm at #32 without quotes and #12 with quotes.

My question is...Is too much of my keyword in the anchor text too much. For example, i devote 1 link to my main keyword and the other link to another page on my site. However, is it wrong to keep writing articles and using the same anchor text for all of them? Will it hurt me more than help me?

Sure hope someone can help me. Laters!

    Hi,

    Well done.

From personal experience, if you are building your links naturally, like you are, then putting your main keyword in anchor shouldn't hurt you, especially if you are using other keywords and pointing to other pages in your site also.

I got one of my websites (with the most comp) to page one by using only the main keyword in anchor, however, I was just building the links slowly but steadily. Now I am working on other keywords and occasionally throwing the main keyword in (in anchor)to keep it's rankings.

    Hope that helps

Thanks! This helps a lot! I will continue to use article marketing for links then and focus on other pages on my site as well.

        Hi,

        Glad it helps.

I read your post again and just to clarify, in each article, anchor your main keyword just once, then include the url to your website also. This helps if someone publishes your article but doesn't keep the link active, the reader will still be able to find your site because you have included the url.

        All the best.

Like yves said do it naturally. I suggest that goes for sending out articles too. I would start adding more and more content within your site and interlinking that way. The combo of adding new fresh GOOD content and the fact that your site is already rising in search should continue.

Give it time. But really focus efforts on your own good on-site content. The articles are kinda like seasoning to a great meal. A little bit with the combo of a great foundation (having solid fresh good content on you own site) can go a long way.

    Good luck.

    wicho696,

What you didn't mention is what you are doing ON your site in terms of SEO. Whats your content like? Is it rich in both the keyword and related words? Common mistake is to concentrate only on off site SEO and not look at in page SEO

Use the same anchor text. More experienced off-page SEO'ers will tell you that. "Natural" is largely a myth. And understand that Google will 'dance' and you'll lose or gain ranking positions without rhyme or reason. It's a common mistake to assign cause to something you did (like not linking "naturally"), when in reality it's internal to Google and not in your control.

Use the same anchor text. Keep building links. Don't stop until you get where you want. Nothing wrong with putting more than one link in, but don't vary the anchor text much (if at all). I used to buy into this notion of varying it, but a lot more testing has led me (and many experts) to conclude it only makes your job harder.

Thats not a universally held position though. I've seen evidence for both sides and actually have seen more for varying it.

I used to as well but then learned it's not what it's made out to be and also I've found that it's naturally going to be varied if using the best backlink sources because you have no option. Although mostly in those cases I tend to use my domain name or site's name as anchor text because it's got at least some or part of my main keyword in there.

To sum up this anchor text debate.. it's all worry and nothing else so just keep going until you see results.

I have a site that has been in the Top 5 at Google for 2+ years now and every single one of the links I got myself use the exact same anchor text. That's for a highly competitive term.

What those arguing in favor of varying anchor text are forgetting is that there will be links coming in from actual "natural" sources. They will introduce variety since you don't control their anchor text.

By all means, keep varying up your anchor text and beat your heads against the link building wall. I hope you're in one of my niches!

Vary your anchor text IF you are wanting to hit on other keywords.. This is not required. It will help you and make your life easier my rotating your anchor text IF you are in fact wanted to target other keywords.

Keep building backlinks though and do not stop, you can buil 1000's in a day if you have the time or the ability.

Natural - Please do not listen to this stuff, there is not such thing as "Natural" ... I can visit and manaully post on 500 sites in the morning and still have 2/3 of a day left. So natural means nothing at all... Some people give out that bad advice about "only build 10 or 20 links a day" .. Blah Blah!! Give me a break.

Build as many links as you can, just do not spam any site.
