Hello,

I'm creating strategy for internal link-building about my new website. The initial idea has been to rank for multiple keywords/phrases using cornerstone content.

For example the keywords for which I want to rank are:

"bread cakes"
"white bread cakes"
"black bread cakes"
"red bread cakes" and etc. sounds similar, but representing totally different bread cakes.

In order to achieve that I planed to create several pages like this:

URL-1: domain.name/bread-cakes with H1 tag "Bread cakes"
URL-2: domain.name/bread-cakes/white with H1 tag "White Bread cakes"
URL-3: domain.name/bread-cakes/black with H1 tag "Black Bread cakes"
URL-4: domain.name/bread-cakes/red with H1 tag "Red Bread cakes" and etc.

I thought when linking from from all sub-pages like "domain.name/bread-cakes/white" to main page "domain.name/bread-cakes", google will rank the main page better for keyword "bread-cakes"

Additionally expected all sub-pages to rank well for long phrases in this way:

"White Bread cakes" -> domain.name/bread-cakes/white
"Black Bread cakes" -> domain.name/bread-cakes/black
.................................................. .........................................
and etc.

Unfortunately once I created several pages, saw that suffering from "keyword cannibalization".

Into SERP result are only pages like "domain.name/bread-cakes/white" and "domain.name/bread-cakes/black". All other sub-pages are missing.

That's why when somebody search with google for "Bread cakes" he is seeing page "domain.name/bread-cakes/white".

When somebody search for "Red Bread cakes" he is seeing page "domain.name/bread-cakes/black"

Do you have ideas how to avoid that and to achieve my initial goal?

Well, you can either tweak the pages that are already ranking for the keywords that Google is ranking them for or you can just ignore it, being satisfied that any of your pages are ranking for your targeted phrases, knowing that if they click-through to your site, your excellent navigation will help them get where they want.

Oh ... and H1 tags have little to no influence for what a page is going to rank for. I hope you meant "title tags". More significant from an SEO perspective, are the words used in the main content of the page - the utilization of the targeted keyword phrase as well as its related phrases (LSI words) and, of course, backlinks and the anchor text used with internal links.

    Whatever Dave mentioned is correct.

And linking to your main page from different pages isn't going to rank your main page better. The pages happen to have some authority in them to pass it on in the first place.

You just need more and better links, both internal and external.

Keyword cannibalization is not your problem.

Like Dave said, H tags are not a big ranking factor. The title tags of the pages will be more important.

I'm guessing this is a fairly new site too. Get some better links and give it more time.

Try using synonyms other wise your site might get penalized .I think that using the same terms and phrases will hurt you in the ranking.

Is your site a keyword cannibal? Keyword cannibalization is an SEO expression that portrays what happens when you have more than one page focusing on a similar keyword. For instance, suppose you have a page on your nursery shop site with title, heading, and keyword center "pruned bushes." You need individuals to discover you when they utilize that term in the search. Sooner or later, you choose to compose a blog article about thinking about pruned bushes and coincidentally (or even deliberately) you likewise utilize the keywords "pruned bushes" in the title, heading, and all through the blog entry. After you distribute the article, you discover the article outranking your fundamental "pruned bushes" page, or, you may fine the two pages positioning ineffectively.

URL-3: domain.name/bread-cakes/black with H1 tag "Black Bread cakes"
URL-4: domain.name/bread-cakes/red with H1 tag "Red Bread cakes" and etc.

If you plan above like this, change the slug (or) breadcrumb as below format.

    URL-1: domain.name/bread-cakes
    URL-2: domain.name/bread-cakes-white
    URL-3: domain.name/bread-cakes-black
    URL-4: domain.name/bread-cakes-red

    Instead of Slash replace Hyphen

Content must be unique on each and every page.
