My experience is that the best and quickest way to rank high is WordPress blog
and a post, which is optimized with long tail, low demand keyword.

With low demand I mean from 5 to maybe 20 daily searches.

To guarantee the ranking, you can also use
    social bookmarking.

I have got so many top rankings with this tactics and
these rankings stay there for months.

I would go the traditional authority site, optimized internally.

Wordpress is quick and dirty, but of course you lose control over some internal aspects of SEO (can still be done, but a bit more fiddly).

Not to mention losing the top fold of the page (depending on the wordpress template).

A Blog is quick and easy though, and no knowledge of html required

Create multiple level's of networks as backlinks to your site using social media sites definitely helps strengthen your position, and is usually missed when people are checking out your site. e.g. They find those websites linking directly to your site, but not the websites linking to those links.

    Cheers

    Tim

      Hi Paul,

Search engines do not care what CMS platform you use or if you use one at all. It does not have any influence on SEO. You can do a great job or a very poor job with any of those platforms.

If you use a CMS it can help you setup pages easily. You will have slightly less control and you may need to get certain plug-ins to be able to do effective SEO. This is especially true if you use a platform like Joomla.

If you use a traditional HTML editor you will need a bit more knowledge and will need to plan and organize your site, but you will have more control.
