What Matters Most In SEO? Site Age, Internal Links, External Links

When I research certain terms (keywords) I see things that can or cannot effect the rankings of that page but I can never be sure which one's matter the most.

Like what matters most to google for ranking a page, site age, internal links to that page, external links, pr of page, etc...

I see some sites rank for a term with low PR but they seem to have site age or internal linking structures that seem to help boost that page up.

You need aged site for Trust rank to build up, and internal linking when your site is big enough!

External links still the most effective way to start with, when your site reach certain PR, your internal links starts to show it's power!

      Not necessarily.

If the site content structure is good, and correct internal linking structure is good, then you wont need any back links... I've already proven to peeps a year or so ago that backlinks aren't necessary, but keyword proximity / relevancy and link proximity / prominence will beat external linking faster.

Age of site is certainly important but I would say that the actual domain name is also vital.

That's an interesting point. In your experience, do you find that relevant links do help more in the most competitive industries though?

Quantity and quality of backlinks from other sites.
The rest is secondary, including contents and on-site optimizations.

As an experiment I ranked my 5 months old domain with 1 page of lame content above 90M of competing pages on the first page of Google for $10+/click keyword phrases.
Just via backlinks and most of them from irrelevant sites.

What kind of backlinks did you use? Reciprocal links, blog postings, forum postings, articles, custom articles for a specific site, social media, other?

      Thanks!

Relevance DOES have some sort of effect or rankings but it is not drastic or even worth the time in my mind.

For example you could spend 2 hours placing 10 relevant backlinks
or you could spend 2 hours and create 40 non relevant backlinks.

The 40 non relevant backlinks will push more link juice then the 10 relevant backlinks

I can't even find enough relevant sites to post links to. I agree that quantity from any high PR site works much better. I'm not getting fast results like some people post but over the span of 3 months I'm ranking on page 1 for many keyword phrases by using high PR backlinks.

Seo is a slow process generally, you can rank faster by using web 2.0 sites though

External links are by far the most important factor. It doesn't matter what your page is about if your on the front page of google, you will rank well.

You need a lot of link juice to make internal link worth the value

    else

New site would be able to rank high just from internal links, but the fact is external links will let you rank high but not internal links.

      no you dont

link juice is not what only makes you rank, its the words that are the main important factor, not links like most ppl think.

just study seo properly and do a LOT of testing on where to place words in your articles and where exactly to place the links in your articles

Well for the really competitive keyterms, it is unlikely you will rank unless your site is at least a year old. Google places a very heavy algorithm on site age for some reason.

Probably because google favours ranking information sites better than commercial sites, as they want the latter to use their adwords system.

And when the internet first site, it was mainly information sites, so the older the site the less likely it is to be commercial. obviosuly this is a generalisation, but I think thats a reason why google places weight on site age.

After gaining some authority internal linking is very important. This is because you need to show google which is our most important page, normally home page by having all the other pages in your website linking to it.

Internal rankings can improve your rankings well for sure.

But by far, the most important is good relevant external backlinks with keyword rich anchor text. This is still the holy grail of seo, and is obviously for another thread.

    hope this helps

They all count towards ranking high in the SERPs but the one that carries the most weight in determining your ranking is the amount of high quality backlinks pointing to your domain with the keyword(s) in the anchor text.

Internal SEO is 100% controllable by yourself. Start with that and then get backlinks. You won't find authority sites without both.

I am wondering about internal links, can anyone give me advice on this? I have a blog and usually can link each blog post to several other posts, how important is this and is it bad to link all my post back to a certain post or page or pages? I've been making regular post and leaving the internal linking out all together, am I making a mistake by doing this?

I am sure that "EXTERNAL LINKS" played an important role here other than other factors. I had experienced that, for a keyword competitive search, A site which had about 06 months old with about 10-12 pages, is listed on top # 5 due to STRONG + QUALITY backlinks.
