Niche keyword of 12,000 per month enough?

There is a lot of competition for what I am going to do with my web site. But I found a keyword of about 12,000 per month and google only shows about 65% competition when you look at the green bar showing how many web sites are competing for that key word.

I looked on the first page of google for that key word and it should be easy for me to get my web site on the very first page of google for that key word.

But is 12,000 visitors per month for the home page of my web site enough?

Seeking answers, David

    Hi David,

Enough for what? What is the purpose of your website?

Bear in mind that most Keyword Tools show you the number of searches, not how many visitors you will receive.

Also is the number of searches an exact match or a broad match? Are you making a micro niche site or an authority site? For a micro niche I think its golden if you can get to the first page easily. For an authority site its good too as long as you are planning to rank for your other webpages related to the main keyword.

12,000 is actually pretty good, much better than most long tail keywords. Some main keywords like "digital cameras" get a lot more but anything more specialized drops off pretty fast.

    Hi David,

This question is too "simple", but the answer is too "complicated"

    1. 12,000 broad match should always be compare with phrase match to get an idea how the user going to type the keyword.
    2. Actual visitor that arrive your site will be much lesser, may be 30% or 40% if you rank on first position.
    3. I would get tons of keywords for traffic, and use 1 to 3 for my homepage ranking

So, if you are looking for a lot of traffic, get more keywords !

  • What kkchoon said is exactly right -- don't bet the farm on one keyword. Think of one theme that people will search on, and dominate for as many keywords as you can under that theme.

You going to need a lot more keywords if you want to do well. 12,000 is not enough.

not bad at all.But could have been better. But still there are a lot more factors to be considered before a conclusion is made.Remember that the conversion ratio or the CPC plays a very important role. And so is the CTR in case of adsense.

Yes, especially when the competition is in your ability to outrank it!

SEO is just another number game, if you have more links and juice, you win the game!
