Hi! I just read an excellent blog post explaining why having more adsense ads on a page earns you much less money.Have you tested this theory and did it work?

Here is the blog post I got the information from:

I'm not sure how true it is but many of my adsense sites are experiencing at good 5%-10% CTR and I have a lot of ads at the upper fold.

      Hi tommen,

I have found that a single ad unit has worked best for me. I believe this is due to a couple of reasons. When you have a single ad unit, only the highest bidders will be displayed on your website. You will also have fewer of the lesser relevant ads displayed.

Fewer ad units can mean a higher CTR for each unit, and higher CTR tend to bring higher paying advertisers.

I read a long time ago that fewer choices sell better.

This was coming from a real world sales person, but what he essentially said was that if you offer somebody too many choices they can't make up their mind and often end up not buying anything, so the best way to go was to offer three choices

    1) the choice they can't afford
    2) the choice they can afford and the one you think they should buy
    3) a choice they don't like

This would make the buyer feel they have options but you are really giving them two bad options and directing them towards making the purchase that you want them to make.

Not sure if this really has much to do with adsense ads, but, still a good lesson in salesmanship.

    I'm all about that bass.

Great tips! I never thought about it that way, by giving these 3 choices you can get them to do exactly what you want and they still feel like they chose the best option for them.
