I'm kinda happy, what do you think?

#11
of about 347,000,000

and for you quotes kids

#11 of about 5,060,000

I'm rather pleased with myself. And yes, it is a very competitive single word keyword. The #8 site, sells traffic so I know they bring in around 10-15k unique views a day.

I just hope it sticks.
#good

    Jason,

YOU DA MAN! But if your terms are pretty competitive... it won't be long before others will want to dethrone you.

There's always room for improvement, so start setting your eyes on #10, then #5, then #3 and so on.

    Best of luck,
    - Jay

its very good! congrats. but as jaggyjay said, there is a high risk (especially since it's a competitive word), that you will drop down.

so you need to get those backlinks pointing back to your site! very soon, you'll be able to move up from #11 to the top 3! and you'll be getting more visitors then the 8th spot!

    keep it up man!

Congratulation on your achievements but I think 'single word keyword' might be not so good in conversion rate. Why not choose some longer keywords and rank higher?
What I am trying to do is build an authority site.

My goal was to take around 10 of the top ranking search terms for a topic and rank for all of them. The primary keyword, which is ranking the highest is a single word and the rest are two and three word phrases.

A good example of what I am trying to do is using the Seo Book Keyword Suggestion Tool for a term like 'dating', then picking several of the top terms and ranking for all of them... like 'dating' 'dating sites' 'online dating' 'dating tips' 'singles dating' ect... *note, dating is just an example.

I'm still in the early stages of building up the secondary keywords but so far many of them are climbing up the ranks as well and I've also noticed a significant boost in long-tail strength.

I've always believed that the strength of a site spreads out and give all pages on a site a little boost and my results reflect that.

so you need to get those backlinks pointing back to your site! very soon, you'll be able to move up from #11 to the top 3! and you'll be getting more visitors then the 8th spot!
Top 5 is almost impossible for a lot of my keywords and the work required may not be worth it. I'm just aiming to rank on the first page for many prime keywords instead of ranking top 3 for a few. I want my site to be in a surfers face no matter what search terms he is using.
