Squidoo lens vs Ezine - Newbie Question

I asked a question earlier about posting original content on Ezine vs on my own blog and about the "end goal" of getting my content on Ezine.
So I ask a similar question about Squidoo -- is the goal to get a link? And is it best to put original content on Squidoo (e.g. a blog post that I would have otherwise put on my own site)? Or should I put a preview with a link?
