Hi

I have a competitor who's site is No.2 in Google search for a particular keyword, there are no back links and a 0 page rank. I am targeting the same keyword my page rank is 1 and the page has several back links, my site is always below my competitors in search results.

There are 180,000 results for this search term

Is there some sort of traffic generator the competitor might be using to get high rankings?

I am relatively new to this so any advice would be appreciated

As you said, the site is PR0, most probably new, but they may had a lot of backlinks which you have yet seen.

Try Majestic SEO for more accurate backlinks checking.

It's hard to tell without the URL's, but their on page SEO is probably better than yours or more targeted or themed.

Is also possible to use a 301 redirect, moved an old site with authority to a new domain.

    Hi tjs1903,

Search engines rank pages based upon relevance. PR plays no significant role and backlinks can help but only in the way it effects your page's total relevancy score. The most relevant page wins the ranking game.

The search engines always want to display the most relevant pages first and foremost. If you learn how each of the important SEO factors influence your page's relevancy score you will have an excellent grasp on what it takes to outrank your competitors.

Ya know, if everyone read that first, threads like this would be nonexistent.

Yes the 301 redirect is probably something that has happened. How old is the persons domain name that might be the issue.

He might have 1 quality backlink that you dont see that is pushing him over the top.

    Good luck in your research.

      Really need more info...

      - How old is the domain?
      - Backlinks might not be showing yet
      - As others have mentioned, could be a 301 from another aged domain
      - On page SEO could be better optimized than your site
