Best way to get your pages to top 3...

Hey guys,

I have finally gotten back on the horse and been pushing my IM again. I've had small wins and failures throughout the past 8 months when I started learning about IM. What problem Im having right now is ranking in the top 3 or even first page for my articles. I have a good initial backlinking and SEO plan when I publish the article but after that Im not sure what the best practice to go by is.

My current plan I use for backlinking each article is to post to:

My site
Eza
wetpaint
gather
go articles
blogger
xanga
squidoo
digg
delicious
stumbleupon

Within each of these, i have a link to my newsletter landing page and a link to another one of my articles on my site. I pingomatic each one of these as well as onlywire each.

I also post 3-5 messages throughout the day with links to the article on ping.fm which hits facebook, twitter, plus like 25 others.

All this is day 1 of my article posting. This is what I've done in the past for each of my articles. Im getting all my articles ranking but usually only within the top 4 pages. I am wondering what I should be doing for each article days or weeks later to push them higher in the rankings.

I've made a list of more article directories, forums, and blogs to start posting on maybe a week after I post an article so that I don't over do the first day backlinking and can keep pushing my article higher in the search engine but I would like to know the best approach to get your articles to the top.

I do extensive keyword research and Im not shy to attack a tough keyword but I the majority of my articles are focused around easy -medium difficulty keywords. At least 3k searches a month and low to medium competition (not in number of competitors but I focus on the strength of the first page in google).

I would like to know what your guys strategies are to backlinking after the initial push. Most of my high ranking pages are actually coming from the article directories instead of my actual website posts too which frustrates me but that will just come in time Im sure.

I would love to start outsourcing and using things like angela's backlinks, etc but I just don't have any extra money right now. I also work 12 hours a day and only can put in about 2 hours an evening on M-F for my site. Its takes me about 2 hours to do the mentioned backlinking above. After the 2 hours, my girlfriend wants to kill me for not spending time with her haha. On the weekends I can put a good 6-8 hours/day in but in this time I write my articles. I can get about 20 articles finished on a good weekend. I have also started recording videos which I haven't gotten a chance to post or market yet, but I am extremely excited about what may come from them.

Any help from you guys would be great. I would like to make a battle plan for this. I hate going into things blindly, even though my whole IM experience I've had no idea what Im doing, haha.

    Hello petelta,

My humble advice would be to:

    1) Manage your time well to in your short 2 hours, you can maximise your efficiency. Write down your TO DO things and when you are on it, finish them asap so you can rest earlier too!

    2) No money to outsouce = do it yourself. Same thing applies in all aspects of life. Nothing wrong with it.

    3) Great to see you are doing extensive keyword research! It is a very important step indeed. Bad keyword research can mean a venture working or failing. I am also one that would aim to not shy away from tough keywords. Have a variety of them!

    4) Now, there are MANY ways to get backlinks. Angela's backlinks are more focused on profile backlinks. There are many many more:

Copied and pasted from my free SEO Techniques report:
    - Article submission sites
    - Social bookmarking sites
    - Hub sites and blogs
    - Video Submission Sites
    - RSS Submission sies
    - Blog commenting
    - Forum postings and signatures
    - Software submission sites
    - Document and pdf submission sites
    - Directories
    - Press releases
    - Created blogs
    - Wiki sites
    - Certain .edu and .gov sites
    - Podcast hosts sites
    - Classfied sites
    - Membership profiles

No links given here, but I hope this categories will help point you in the right direction to get links.

Thanks for the reply JeffLam. Managing my time was my first obstacle I had to tackle. I was horrible at this 8 months ago, but IM has definitely put me in my place...so much to do and so little time haha. I have only been doing things on my own so far. Im just starting to outsource small bits just to free my time up for other things. i can't wait till I can outsource everything and sit on my boat haha.

thats a great list of different areas to get some good backlinks. How many backlinks do you throw at an article a day? And how many times do you go back and backlink for a single article. Im posting 1-2 articles a day right now and it takes a good 2 hours to backlink for each but only do it the day I post the article. From all the backlinks I do now with onlywire and ping.fm Im getting around 86 backlinks per article on day one. I know this is no where near enough for most articles but I want to keep the progression moving upward.

      Hey petelta,

Actually, 86 backlinks per day is pretty above average!

I can't give a fix number for you: there are no rigid formulas.

Just make it as natural as possible - which usually means no influx or spikes of increased number of backlinks. IE:

      Day 1) 2 backlinks
      Day 2) 4 backlinks
Day 3) 50 backlinks (sudden boost of motivation?)
Day 4) 2 backlinks (burn out from yesterday's efforts?)

      You get the idea.

Try to make it a little consistent day by day. It tests your patience and dedication along with your persistence and you will see results!

A lot of big words there but it all means the same thing.

Don't worry about outsourcing first, especially if you do not have the cash to do so. Just do what you can do (Art Williams style), and when things start rolling, you simply gotta let it roll faster.

well what Im doing is getting all those backlinks on day 1. After that I haven't gone back and done any backlinking on my articles. For each article should I split those backlinks up over a week or so....or should I do those initial backlinks then on day two get another 50+ and day 3 repeat and do this for each article over a span of a couple days?
