PR on domains with NO backlinks

My client holds a few domains that are underdeveloped
- 1 1/2 year old .travel domains
- have one page ORIGINAL CONTENT on them
- The content is quite lengthy.
- On the recent google PR update they all got PR2
- no backlinks show up with Google or Yahoo
- Google does not even report any indexed pages in some of the domains
- domains were purchased new (not dropped)

is there an explanation for the PR2 ?

EDIT forgot to mention that the domain was for a while pointing to an already developed domain with PR4

Well there is the thing that PR means nothing ...lol There could be backlinks that you know nothing about as nobody or no system can pull all backlinks for a site.

In google's case the age may have something to do with it but there are other factors involved such as cross linking and etc ...

I have a blog that got moved off of free wordpress, to self hosting and I lost any linking that was initially done.

Less than a year later, it has a PR2

Only links to it were from an online forum elsewhere - where I posted just a couple of times and that forum/link was not done intentionally and I don't think the site its coming from even has much to do with my site.

I think it is a good argument for original content.

I don't do any SEO off the blog. I don't drive traffic, but it gets regular traffic.

Still the domains DON"T have ANY backlinks
it was bought, one page was put on the domains, they were not advertised, they were not SEO'd

Actually that doesn't mean that it doesn't have backlinks. There's a lot of sites that automatically list "domains bought today" and domain statistics sites and so on. Nowadays you don't have to do anything to get those backlinks.

Google doesn't usually show up many backlinks. Some people use robots.txt so their link farms do not show up in yahoo so competitors can't track their tactics. Google will still record the PR.

However, the most likely explanation is the fact that the pr toolbar value only upates evey 3 months and at time of update there was some links pointing at site that later dissapeared.
