Have been testing a new campaign and was shocked to discover
that the keyword was given a quality score of perfect 10/10!

The strange thing is that the keyword phrase consists of 7 words
and not all of the keywords are found on the landing page.

It's a direct linking campaign and the website has been around for
many years.

Anyone knows what is happening??

    What am I missing here?

    I see 7/10 for the 3 keywords.

oops, sorry to mention that it was 10/10 initially but dropped back to 7/10
as google calculate the quality score each time the ads appear.

the average cpc is S$0.03 which is about a cent when convert to $USD.

Yeah, that will happen: QS can go up or down for a day or two. At least you noticed and know you are on the right track.

What is happening is that your keyword is one of the best quality among advertisers using it. Your CTR is one of the best. That's what QS is: a score of how well you are doing compared to competitors. It's also normalized for position.

So what probably happened is that for a few days, your click rate was higher than your competitors (your ad for whatever reason was more appealing) and you got a boost in QS.

Maybe a competitor decided to increase their CPC to get in first spot (that's where you are mostly). Their ad not being as good, it gave you a QS boost until they realized their click rate was not any higher and spending more so they reduced their CPC. Any thing you or competitors do will affect your QS: increase/decrease of CPC, new competitors, old ones dropping out, competitors with different ads.

Apparently, the effect was only temporary, that's why my best guess is a competitor trying to beat you with higher bids but poorer ad. It only means you are doing well so keep doing what you are. Try to improve those ads so you have a QS of 10 all the time and you'll be unbeatable. You are likely very close to do that.
