Hey guys,

I have been doing a lot of research on Off Site SEO lately and I am confused as to where I should start first.

I want to start with the thing that will have the most impact on my SERPs because there is one keyword terms that I want to rank in the top 3 on Google.

What do you recommend: Article submissions or high PR backlinks and why?

Thanks in advance,

~Sean

Backlinks will drive you up the SERPs faster, articles will keep you there longer. It's all about whether you're going for short-term or long-term.

Go for both of the jobs- articles and backlinks from high PR sites. Getting backlinks from high PR sites is not so easy and time consuming. But still you've to continue working. For article, write unique, relevant and interesting content with maintaining proper keywords density. Articles also help you to generate some good backlinks for your site.

Why do you ask either this one or that one? Why not both? I think it is an accepted fact that a variety of links is the best approach. I would think that you need both, as well as some forum posts, blog posts, as well as the profile links that are so popular, and maybe some directory stuff thrown in as well.

Just my 2 cents. Sorry if this doesn't answer your question, but I think you need both, at the very least. I think that was my biggest mistake, to concentrate on one type of back link.

Do both. High PR will sky rocket your ranking and Articles will drive more traffic to your website as well as build backlinks.

Your title really confused me as articles are backlinks

In any event, get all types of backlinks.

So it sounds like a mix is best:

        Angela and Paul's backlinks.
        Article Submissions.
        Link Exchanges.
        Blog comments.

How else does one get links?

I've heard of link directories but I've also heard that these can hurt you more than help you!

There are tons of ways to get links.

Directory Submissions, Social Bookmarking, Social Networking, Forums, Articles, Blog Commenting, to name a few...

I've put together a pretty full list in my SEO eBook on WSO sale below for only $5 (yes I'm crazy for selling it that cheap) along with a bunch of on-page stuff you might not even know about. Sorry for the "plug" but I felt it was relevant.

May I add that in addition to pursuing diversity in your backlinks, that you also maintain link velocity; that is, if you start aggressively link building at a rate of say, XXX backlinks per week, that you maintain that pace and not abruptly terminate your link building. We have conducted an experiment before where we aggressively built links for a test site, and it moved up the serps equally aggressively. We then terminated the link building abruptly, I mean we went straight to zero link building after nearly a month of aggressive action. In four days, the site dropped like a rock and though it has somewhat recovered in the months ahead, it certainly isn't a practice we will be following again.

Incidentally, our control in this test, (if one could call it a control given that there are so many variables that we can't hold constant when dealing with web sites, but we did our best), our control had a sustained link building effort and it did not drop from the serps the way the first one did.

In my experience, It is better to go for web 2.0 properties and publish unique and fresh ARTICLES and get backlinks from there as well as include some article directories too to your list. Run a kind of OPEN link wheel (To get index of all your links)... within 10-12 days, you will be able to notice major jump to previous pages on Google. Once this is completed, you can go for High PR links... That will help

    Linkbaiting is a good method.
That means having something that people will want to link to or place on their website.
For my gaming site I use flash games that people can put on their website, myspace, etc.. It works rather well.

An example for you might be a flash mixing board or little module to keep track of events or even a genre song list generator that displays popular songs for that genre.
Non of these would be that difficult to create and might be well worth the investment.

For your articles it does help to build backlinks to those. This in turn gives juice to your main site.

    Good Luck!

If you want some immediate traffic articles are a good way to go - Forum posting is not bad either - but as many have stated you can do both. You would do well to start learning how to get your own backlinks as well. Package like Angela's are good to get you started but you will need to kow what your competitor is doing and how to precisely counter it.

    Here is my SEO moto:

Develop quality content so people will link to it and spread it like fire.
It is not the amount of links to your site. It is the amount of links that is relevant to your site.

If you do allot of links you might get a high page rank but page rank does not effect any results in ranking for keywords nor does buying a domain with the keyword in.

It boils down to feed your market what they want and give good results. Expose brand is far more important than SEO.

Building trust and get emails that is target is very important. SEO change so fast and your email list will always be the same.

    Hope this helps you

    Be Bless

I would start doing competitive research first (competitors links and content structure) to understand what it would take to get the results that you want. It's hard to have a one stop cookie cutter solution to all results as its a very dynamic nature and complex one. Article links from article sites are not very strong compared to contextual links from trusted websites so the latter works better in my experience...Hope that helps you...

I suggest high PR backlinks. It will make your site INDEXED soon and also your will get PAGERANK soon.

And article submission on pr1 site may get approved in 1 week but article submission on 5+ pagerank site needs month or year to get APPROVED.

So better go for PR backlinks.

      1) Backlink Variety

      2) Steady Backlink Velocity

Do those two well, and you'll do well.

Backlinks from good article directories are excellent because they are usually of high page rank and considered quality backlinks. Whatever link building you are using you should include them.

article links will get archived so they are not strong links...dont participate in article spam as the search engines are too sophisticated nowadays to know what you are doing....Strong solid links from relevant pages in contextual formats will do the job...

How are you planing to go about getting high PR backlinks?

Links coming from high level pages of site carry more weight. The question is how do you get them to link to you. Buy ad space?

Articles can really help you out in this way. Articles are good content. Website owners are always looking for good themed content to share with their visitors. They tend to publish the articles on more visible parts of the site. If the article is interesting, the visitor may even want to learn more and follow your link immediately. This mean a new source of traffic above the increase in ranking caused by Google finding all the links to your site.

Also if the link to your site is coming from a site with a simular theme, it will help the quality of the link as well.

I agree - both backlinks and articles are needed. Writing articles also allows your to provide quality information and potential for follow-ups your readers may be interested in. There are a couple of good Directory submitters out there that make backlinking less a pian in the ...!
