Google CPM and CPC banner ad differences

Hi guys.

I am trying to setup a new campaign with Google Adwords. I am trying to rebuild what I have seen a competitor doing. He is using image ads only. Now there seem to be two different types of image ads in Google Adwords:

-Some of the image ads I have seen show a little "I" in the lower right hand corner and don't show the destination URL below the banner
-Other ads don't show this "I" in the right hand corner but show the destination URL below the banner instead

I am assuming the banners showing the letter "I" are CPM based ads but I am really not sure about that. Does anybody have experience with this and can evaluate whether or not those are CPM based ads? Might be that both ad types are just random variations by Google. Anyhow, I really need to know what's the deal here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • There is nothing that you can do to find CPM ads. Even Google has claimed that they do not say that only image ads are CPM. Both image and text adv can be CPM or CPC based.

Google started their campaign only with CPM but then added a competence as CPC. Now it only depend upon the publisher that they want to pay publisher as CPM or CPC.

Google says - "We do not give away any sign or disclose about the type of adv. For CPM adv, advertiser choose their desired sites where they want to run their CPM adv. They also ads up by saying that CPM ads will capture the complete space that you have provided for Google ads."

Still there is no clear indication that you can justify that your ads are CPM or CPC based.
