You might have heard a lot of the big-list gurus talking about the large volume of bans that Google Adwords has done on affiliates. If not, here's the direct blog post from Google regarding the lawsuits they've filed against folks in the "Make Money With Google" niches:

Official Google Blog: Fighting fraud online: taking "Google Money" scammers to court

However, the important link in the article is the one that talks about what issues in the eyes of Google (and it's a BIG eye) that are in violation of their terms and what could ban your site:

  • Google is a target for the Government ... they are also under attack from companies that do not appreciate their content being scraped and displayed. So it makes sense they would eventually take action ... it's in their own self interest.

Since Google makes a large percentage of their profits on adwords do you think rates are going to climb to cover the loss of revenue from all of this banning?

Google makes nearly all their revenue through Adwords (of which I read a high % comes from content network, not mainly Search network).

I personally don't think their rates will climb because by the nature of the auction model, rates are determined by what people are willing to bid (Except in the cases where they force minimum bids on keywords and that's because you have bad quality scores)

What I do foresee is rates starting to increase on other tier-1 networks (Yahoo/Bing) and maybe tier 2 as the affiliates migrate in larger numbers to those networks to get traffic. The hard part is that Google still has ~60% of the market for paid ads, so it's still tough to get a large volume of traffic in comparison to the big G.
