Hey Guys and Gals of the great Warrior Forum!!!

Just wondering if anyone knows how to specifically conquer local search results

As well, what are some ways to optimize showing up higher on the 'google maps' business search?

Google's rules are kind of strict regarding Google Maps. They want you to use your real business name (the one on your business card) and your actual physical business address. This presents a problem because you want to use a local qualifier in your domain name and your site name in order to rank well for your local business. Unless you have legally registered the business in your state ($170 aprox) you are then in violation of their rules. Most businesses have stupid names that do not specifically define what the customer is looking for so the rules give stupidly named legal businesses an advantage with Google maps. I built a site in a highly competitive niche and got it on the first page of Google and then listed it in Google maps. Within a week an "SEO Expert" called me and then gave me a spam review in Gmaps. He pretended that he was a local customer but caller id said he was from elsewhere.
The result of his review was that my site popped from #8 to #2 but I may loose my google maps listing. I obviously don't want that to happen because I'm leasing the site to clients that are paying $40 per click (adwords) for the keyword that is my domain name. Local maps listings are achieved by using local qualifiers in custom categories and then getting reviews. Sometimes reviews on other local sites in the vicinity can also help. Linking is also important.

    Here's my question for others.
If I voluntarily delete my google maps listing will it kill my rankings for that domain name? I think it might, based on what I saw for a single review. Still I might be able to rank high because I have a thousand incoming links that are yet to be indexed.
It's not like I'm putting in 6 or more local Gmaps listings for every variation of the keyword I'm trying to rank for, but now I'm concerned since weenies are out there whining about their failed SEO marketing plans and digging holes for others to fall in. I guess when you play with the big boys ya gotta be ready for punches. I noticed that national lead sales sites are starting to buy localized domain names. So if this is your business model mark your territory.
