SEO your Images! I'm getting traffic from Google, Yahoo, and Bing Images

Hey Guys,

Just noticed a shift in how one of my sites is getting found.

Previously, I gave some info on how I skyrocketed traffic to a brand new blog using a slick Wikipedia strategy.

Well, as I mentioned in that Thread, this was just a simple strategy to start the traffic up until I got Indexed and started ranking.

Well, according to my Webmaster Tools, I'm getting 1st page ranking for quite a few keywords in organic search AND images. (See attachment - if I added it correctly:confused

To be honest, the BULK of my traffic is now from Google Images, but I got a few hits from Bing Images and Yahoo Images according to Google Analytics.

So, it is important to thoroughly optimize your images as well. I see this overlooked quite a bit.

You can avoid a lot of keyword stuffing in the body of a site if you have pics that are also optimized for the keyword. The "Spiders" read ALL of it and will base your keyword density off of more than just the text.

I can legitimately use the keyword about 3 - 4 times in a single pic. Add more pics and have more keywords "hidden" in them. This way you can write page copy that flows and has no excessive keywords.

You will benefit in the regular SERPs and the Image SERPs.

Image Results usually have WAY more than 10 results on the first page also. (I believe Bing has like 100..and people will browse them all.)

Anyway, if you need help with this or don't know how to PROPERLY optimize pics, feel free to PM me.

Hope this helps.

Google images is an excellent way of getting traffic. Theres still not much info on how to get ranked etc, but it can be quite lucrative. some of my sites get a high percentage of their traffic via google image search.

The other day one of my smaller sites got only 2 impressions and 2 clicks from image search and it earned me $4.15 in AdSense revenue..not bad huh?

Only bad thing about that is it is hard to turn vistors into money. They just want to see the image and usually dont do anything else.

I guess that could be true in some instances. I think it depends on the niche and the copy of the site.

Like in Zaheer's case above, it seems that it worked out for him in that particular niche.

What if someone was looking for an Indoor Grill and they wanted to see some pics, but were in the market to buy online.

Imagine they go to G's Images and see your Image and decide to take a closer look.

Well, you already have waiting for this guy a niche review page for that grill and you give him some excellent info along with the pic.

And what's that? At the end of the review, you kindly give this shopper an easy convenient link to either Amazon or Ebay to get this grill.

He has no more questions about the grill. He clicks your link. He buys. You rack up a commission.

      This could happen often!

So, choose your niches wisely and it always better to have as much exposure to your site as possible. Not eveyone buys, but that is just the nature of the beast.

All I see images being is the odd sale here and there, and sure you might aswell optimize for it but I'd rather have traffic from many other sources.

          Exactly,

I never thought one of my own sites would have most of it's traffic from Images.

It's one of those things that is commonly overlooked, but every extra visitor counts. And if you're one of these multi-niche site-building guys, a few extra views here and there can mean a lot.

It's simple and easy and, as you said, should be part of the overall SEO strategy.

Obviously don't use it as the be all and end all but I would give it some SEROUS consideration as part of your SEO mix. IT certainly works if you give it time.

Why would I give it serious time when really, I can spend my time else where getting better results? This is something which you just do quickly, make sure you name your pic right and just forget about it.

Hi yea you're right, sorry I wrote that quickly without reading it....what I meant to say was give it some serious consideration but once you optimise it which doesnt take long just give it time and then it shoudl start to kick in. Hope that clarifies what I meant....we're def on the same wavelength :-)

I totally agree with that, it happenes to my my sites all the time, people search for an image, find it, click on it and then click on the AdSense ad which is always nice. I use image optimisation as part of my seo strategy and it DOES help in the long run. I totaly disagree with the stament above about how it can be hard to convert into money. Just like any niche, just ensure its targetted.

This is how I do it.

        - Create my page content/post etc
        - Ensure the image filename is saved as my keyword, e.g. pink-widgets-for-sale.jpg
        - Use the keyword in the Alt Text as well, so alt="pink widgets for sale"
        - Finally, insert this image as close as possible to where you actually mention the keyword on the page.

        Thats pretty much it.

        Hope that helps!

          Exactly!

One more thing I do is add a Title Tag to the pic as well with the same keyword.

This is all stuff Google recommends in their intro to SEO pdf.

As an added benefit, it not only helps your pics get ranked, but adds more keyword density to the page, which will help you pages to rank as well in the Organic SERPs.

Makes it definitely worth the extra few seconds.
