Am I allowed to use this domain?

Hi all. I'm relatively new to internet marketing (6 months) and I recently ran into problems with domain names.

About a month ago I decided to promote a company's products (let's just say Microsoft as an example) and registered a domain like "microsoftreviews.com", which was available. The website was naturally about Microsoft products. Although I'm not affiliated with Microsoft, I am affiliates of several retail websites.

So for the past month I created contents, SEOed, and built links. But just as I started seeing traffic, a affiliate manager from one of the websites told me that Microsoft complained about my domain name. He threatened to cut the network relationship if I can't shut the site down. I have since moved the site to a more generic domain.

I admit that it was stupid to use (hypothetically) Microsoft's trademark in my domain. I thought they wouldn't mind as I was selling their products anyways.

My question now is, can I forward the traffic from the old domain to the new one so I can recover some of my hard work? If I do, can they sue me for copyright violations? Technically, it isn't domain squatting as I'm not seeking others to buy my domain. The visitors simply see the new url and website when they click on "microsoftreviews.com". I intend to stop the forwarding once Google realizes the two websites are the same thing.

Take down everything related to the domain, do not forward. Delete the domain name and if your lucky they won't get sued. If you keep it up or even try to forward it, they will come and take the name from you, and you may end up in a civil law suit. Unless your ready to spend $10,000 on up to defend yourself (An IP attorney told me these cases often get into the $100,000 range of just legal fees, if someone tries to fight the trademark holder), delete it and hope for the best.

      What????

Cannot understand any of what you have just said.

Anyway just delete the domain, it's not worth the hassle or the money.

This is called domain squatting. You may delete the domain and forget about it.

I'd have to agree, it's not worth any kind of fight. Specifically since you're not going to loose too much.

I know it's dissappointing to spend all that time only to find that you made a mistake, but it does happen to us all, everyone of us!

Mistakes are what make us better and help us learn. That's why tutorials, reports, e-books and the like are so valuable. They allow us to learn from other peoples experiences.

Good luck and don't give up, just dust yourself off and get the heck away from that domain name!
