SEO question for the gurus

Experienced warriors,

What are the SEO implications of using a subdomain as your primary site? I want to use the dot between the two words to make the domain more memorable and make sense.

Stupid example: delicious3.14pi.com

In your experience, is google going to mind if all the direct traffic and backlinks go to the subdomain?

I'm not a guru, but from my personal experience - google does not mind.

    You can rank your subdomain.

    Aith,

From my personal experience and knowledge, Google treats subdomains as different webistes; so if you only want to use this subdomain for your site, it's a good decision. However, if you also want to put content on your main page (e.g. yourdomain.com), you should also build links to that page.

If I were you, I'd rather go for internal directories, as they are able to drain link power from the main site.

    Hope this helps..

I would not worry about making it memorable. Sticking a bookmark option on it makes it memorable. Giving great info makes it memorable. If its really good enough to warrant being memorable, give it its own domain.

Subdomain is okay for Google or else. I can say its a myth if people think that google prefer domain without a dot at the middle of domain name.
    Most important is your content

    Cheers everyone,

It's good to know that it doesn't make a difference - I guess if a URL has traffic and backlinks, google will consider it important to the user. However you have made give the domain choice a second thought.
