    The first step you need to do to get targeted traffic to your site as an Adsense publisher is to do proper keyword research and write articles targeting low competition high traffic keywords so that you can rank easily in the SERP with little or no backlinking campaign. If you can also write some articles and submit to article directories, these will also give you some traffic as well as backlink which will help you rank higher and faster.

    First of all implore you get to read the dos and don'ts of adsense.

    For instance, getting traffic from Traffic Exchange or any paid to click site can make you lose your adsense account.

    However, article marketing, blogging are a good way to begin.

    Ensure you adsense is postioned in a visible area where people can see it.

    Driving traffic won't make you money until you create a site that is worth driving traffic to.

    Too many people think that you just throw up a site with adsense and make money. Google doesn't pay jack to crappy sites.

    I usually use a keyword research tool, and find key phrases that have 30,000 or less competing pages when the phrase is written in quotes. I make sure it has at least 80 searches a day, and that no other web 2.0 sites like EzineArticles, Squidoo, Scribd, HubPages, Youtube, Weebly, Blogger, or Wordpress is dominating that search term.

    If it turns out it is a good keyword by my research I then write an article with the key phrase in the first sentence, the middle and in the last paragraph, and I post it up on my blog, or website.

    Then I start building High Page Rank back links. I start submitting articles to the sites I mentioned above, and I start creating profiles of high page ranking sites that allow do-follow links, and I anchor text my key phrase to point to the specific article on my website with my key phrase.

    This will boost you up in the search engine, and will get you free organic traffic daily, because Google will see you as a authoritative site to that niche.
