I just read a top five SEO tips , including title tags, etc and one of the primary tips was to include keywords in your "folders". What is this referrring to? Is it the actual folders of the web site (hosting service folder structure)?

I've never heard of that, but yes, they would be talking about the different folders/directories on your server for your website.

Whoever is calling them "folders" is really messing you up from the start. As Tim mentioned, they are the directories on your website.

You'd be much better off just installing a blog (I recommend WordPress) and then setting up a keyword targeted category structure... that will accomplish the "folder" thing a lot better, and ultimately would be a lot easier to accomplish.

Yes, that's the first thing I suspected. However, I am not convinced.

I'm almost sure that they mean directories within your site. Sense most users simply install wordpress and use the more seo friendly link structure, it leads me to believe that he is referring more specifically to categories. For example:

        mysite.com/cat-keyword/post-keyword

This way your keyword pages are index and will help you to rank better.

        mysite.com/cat-keyword

This structure is based off the idea that the main and most valuable keyword is in the domain and all sub-keywords are used as categories then very specific keywords that don't necessarily get any traffic but draw in users are used as post url/title. This is just a general guide and doesn't mean you have to follow it.
