Hey, I've recently acquired a 9year old domain from a friend, it was given to me free and transferred to my account, it comes up on page one for the keyword I want, however since i put up a blog on it and posted a few articles, its been a while but the information hasn't changed i.e. the info on google.

Also since i started building backlinks to it, it moved to page 2, could backlinks cause the problems? Ive just asked my partner to being building links to it by commenting on related blogs, the blogs are all high pr, with related content, if he builds about 150 could i get in trouble with google ? or would it be fine considering the domain is 9years old ?

Thanks Guys!

      Hi Fred,

Getting backlinks isn't going to hurt you and you don't need to worry about how many you are getting unless you are simply spamming. If your are spamming then you may want them to go unnoticed, however that defies the very purpose of getting links.

If your partner is posting useful content and not just spamming, then don't worry, go full speed ahead!

Keep in mind that each and every page on your website or blog can rank for a different and related keyword. The more pages you have listed on page one the more traffic you are going to receive. If the original content is already ranking well then you ought to focus your link building towards getting those new pages ranked.

the domain is 9 years old... go to town with your backlinks.

that said... you do want to ramp up in a gradual fashion. don't just go from zero to 150k backlinks overnight - it's still unnatural. but because it's 9 years old, you can go a lot faster than if doing it by hand.

Backlinks are crucial, I should say, to a site. Yours is an old one, and the growth of backlinks is normal, don worry too much. Besides, it will take some time for the search engines to detect the changes of your site ,so maybe you have done a lot of work, but can only see the effect after a couple of days or so.

If the link is from Organic SEO then there is no harm, but if you have single link form blackheat method then it can damage you

Once again, you cannot manually create links "too fast", it's not humanly possible. Certain automation tools can cause most incoming links to be filtered out temporarily for non-authority domains if a large amount of low quality links from a narrow range of IP addresses are done quickly. However, sites that go viral and get 100K links within days do just fine because their link profile is robust.

My personal idea is if you post and link back your site from different sources ethically then you should not scared of the backlinks. Backlinks that build in proper way would never make any problem to your site.

Hey, thanks so much for the replies guys, The links have been placed, not been a lot of changes ni google apart from me dropping to page 2 from number 1 in google, lol ..I'm hoping there would be some changes, as there where hardly any backlinks before, but now i have above 100 backlinks all from pr5-7 sites relating directly to my niche and they aren't sites that people post too much links on either.

Quite confused. I was hoping to get an increase in PR, i'll post any changes i get.

          Thanks guys!

My site is a year old and only has 60 backlinks to the main page. If I hire a service to get 200-300 backlinks in a few days, is that going to raise a red flag with Google? Also, I notice that people like to ping once they're backlink has been created...is it better for Google to naturally find these backlinks instead?

many backlinks in a short period isn't good. you should build backlinks slowly. don't rush

slow? fast? how about consistently. If your site is used to 1,000 links/mo and all of a sudden you get 10,000/mo, that will raise a red flagg. On the other hand if you build 10,000 links/mo for the next year, you should be fine.

It all about the quality of the links, Google has come down on all the spammed methods. Why put your domain at risk? Play the safe game and try to create top quality backlinks. They will rank you higher and provide you with great link juice, which means keeping your rankings and not slowly drifting away back down.

      Quality beat quantity!
