How do you submit your website to search engines?

Hi there,

As part of making your website SEO friendly, would a website company creating a website for you generally submit your site url to the various search engines?

If they don't really do this then is this an easy enough thing to do and can anyone recommend the ones to submit to.

Also how would one check the submissions, just by typing the website URL in the search engines?

Thanks if anyone can help me out here.

Google will find you as long as you're not blocking them, Yahoo and MSN to eventually. You can try pingler.com and bookmarking some pages at Digg, Propeller, etc. and submitting articles to ezinearticles, goarticles, etc. The searchengines will find you eventually. I use Wordpress and it automatically pings the searchengines and bookmarks the posts. I haven't submitted a site in over a year and the searchengine bots find my sites. I wouldn't pay someone to do it, I've never received significant traffic from them other than Google, MSN and Yahoo, it does make my hit counter go wild for a day or two though.

Hi, I do not submit it either, but there are some other good ways to have it indexed by google. I use bookmarking sites like digg and reddit, after submitting my eyewear site to these sites, the blog will be indexed soon. Frequent updating is important too.
