Changing WordPress permalink structure???

If you had the structure set up to show the day, date, and post tittle.

What happens when you change it to just the post tittle?

Do you loose any rankings for your posts?

Will people get an error message saying that the post cannot be found?

Is there any benefit to changing the structure? SEO wise.

    I forget which plugin it is, but you can make it so when you change your permalink structure, it will automatically redirect your old post URL's to the new ones. SEO wise, yes there is value.

    1.) You can set it up as category/post which helps if your building a themed site with categories, and you only pick one category for each post.

    2.) If your like me, and you pick multiple categories for each post then just set your permalink as the postname.

    Either way, you'll be getting the benefit of keywords in your URL which will help with SEO

      The only thing I would be doing different is getting rid of the date. The keywords would still be there.

      The more I think about it, the more I think what's the difference if the date is in the url. Maybe I should just leave it alone and move on to bigger and better things.

      Unless someone could show me the error of my ways.

    I just went through this horror show and DIDN'T do as Tim suggested, which was a big mistake.

    I think the plugin you want is called "Redirection," and 2.1.24 is the latest version.

    It tells you how many times your redirected urls have been hit and gives you the IP so you can tell if it was a search engine.

    I changed my permalink structure and when I check it the following day, i surprise that some of them have 404 error.
    So from now on I have to leave as it is so that miss out on those other links that have been already indexed. I am not a techie person that is why I stay the course from now on.
