How Will You Promote An Ecommerce site

Having a "jack of all trades" site is really tough. There's not always a clear picture of its main theme, thus all of the themes are diluted.

I suggest building a primary page for each category and obtaining relevant links back to each of those category pages to build their authority.

If you've got some funds to invest, you can go the PPC route. With AdWords, yahoo, bing, etc. Ofcourse proper keyword research has to be done but you can do well with finding the right keywords for products and sending visitors directly onto that product's page.

All other promotional tactics such as article marketing/link building/SEO apply to e-Commerce websites just as much as they apply to any other website.

Another thing I've done in the past when I used to run ecommerce websites with 100's of products is... Build a complete informational website for that market. Let's say you're selling beauty products, so you build an informational website dealing with beauty tips, what are the best products to purchase, etc, the whole works, without actually selling products on this website.

Of course the keyword research has to be thorough as always and content has to be quality & original. Promote this website through SEO/article marketing and any of the other methods that are currently out there. After you start establishing some traffic on this informational website and start becoming an authoritative, respected website in the niche -- you can start using it to "advertise" your e-commerce website all over the place.

Well placed links within articles, side-bars, banners, and all that good stuff.

It's basically like building an informational website and then doing affiliate marketing on it to forward your visitors, except that instead of affiliate products, you are linking them to you own ecommerce website with your own products!

Sure it takes work and time, but if done correctly, it can create a sales funnel going straight to your e-commerce website, getting you $ales.

And don't forget to build a list!
