Can I use old domains with pr but not indexed?

Hi,

Sometimes I find domains for sale, which have pagerank, but are not listed.
What happens if I buy one of these. Will it eventually loose its PR or will it get re-indexed and maintain the PR as soon as I add some content?

Typically these are parked domains.

Any experience?

Thanks.

Regards,
Thomas

I think a domain have PR--> It's OK whatever site indexed or not.
You can index your site easily later

If the links stick and are good ones to begin with you'll regain PR after a few months of the site going live again in most cases. Sometimes the links you think you have when you buy go away because the owner of the linking site goes offline too or removes the link.

It's hard to tell sometimes if a domain has been blacklisted. If it's indexed in Google when you buy that's a good sign that it's OK. However, you could be overlooking some real unindexed gems that might get PR3-6 very quickly based on aged backlinks. It's a gamble but worth it.

BTW, this can happen with domains you buy "new" as well if they've been active in the past and deleted. Right now I have a domain that I bought new that Google won't index because of indiscretions by a former owner in 2007. The domain had expired and been deleted but apparently Google didn't get the memo.

    not listed?

    what do you mean?

Chances are it's faked PR and you will lose it. You need to research the domain. Does it have pre-existing backlinks etc... if it's a parked page with no backlinks but magically has PR, it's probably faked.

    Hi,

It's just that I found a list of domains being sold at godaddy which have PR, but are not listed with google. That is what's called 'fake PR', right?

I was then thinking that if I simply buy one of these, and add content, whether google would just pick it up again and reindex it as a PR-domain, or whether it's back to scratch.
I was hoping to skip some of the groundwork SEO by doing it this way.

Isn't this the way the Mage system (there was a thread about this earlier) works?

    Any experience?

I think that's a good deal. Domain with already a PR. Indexing can be done later. And you would like to have your domain indexed with your material not others.
    GO for it.

Old aged domains are very good for trust and authority in Google, and the links you'll get from them will be good ones as long as they:

    - are not from a link farm or spammy site

    - are relevant to your site

    - don't make up your entire link profile

Also, in order to keep the integrity of these sites going, you'll need to update them. It's not that if you don't update them the link will be useless, it's just that if you want to get the most out of them, don't leave them dead. Hope this helps!

Oh also, if the sites aren't indexed or Google doesn't know about the links, they won't count them. So if you go this route, you'll have to place your link on the site, then get Googlebot to scurry over there to find it.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for the input.

If it's a dropped domain, meaning it's no longer indexed in google, will it still work?
Also, in that case, how do I check if it's been banned?

    Thanks.

I would advise you to stay away from them. It is completely unpredictable whether they will be re-indexed or not. Even when they are re-indexed, they sometimes lose their PR completely or have a reduced PR rank. I would stick with domains that are indexed in Google.

Allright, thanks for all the input, guys.

I guess I will continue to buy new domains, or otherwise buy domains that are listed in google.

    Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Thomas
