Directory Submission, How Often?

Hi there,

I was wondering, how often should I submit my site to directories? I am going to outsource my SEO work but is it ok to submit the same site to the same hundreds of directories once a week? Will this get me more backlinks?

Does social bookmarking get me backlinks?

What are other good strategies for getting backlinks?

Thanks,
Adam

A directory listing is like your phone# listing in the phone book. Why would you request the same listing every week?

If you are talking about 100's of submission/week, you must be doing free directories. There are some free directories besides DMOZ that are worth while, but the good ones rarely take automated submissions. If this is something that you want to do, submitting once is enough.

    Thanks Hot,

All the submitting will be manual. Anyway apart from article marketing, social bookmarking, what other backlinking techniques are there?

    Thanks,

"what other backlinking techniques are there?"

Pay for blog posts on other IM'ers blogs, blog comments, link exchange, link purchases, forum sigs, buying fourm sigs (some forums permit this), buying related sites and adding links to your site, etc.

Great paid directories that I submit to are romow.com & botw.org

Cool, the usual stuff. Still seems like I'm missing something.

ping all the feed url of your directory links pages. Only submitting doesn't work. Donot submit more than once a month, it clearly looks as SPAM

Quality links are better of course.
    Blog commenting maximum Do-Follow posting.
    use 3rd party link exchanges.
Familiar with writing articles to get traffic, but we write most of our articles for backlinks.

I think some 100 dir submissions in Good PR directories per week will help you. Social Bookmarking also give you backlinks and traffic. Try to submit Press releases, articles etc.

100 per week to a single URL sounds high for any method unless the site is quite old and well established. Slow and steady wins the SEO race.

There are two directories that make ANY sense to spend your time on. Yahoo and DMOZ. Both cost a bunch of money and you have to be approved. Only apply if you have an established site. They do give great authority though and Yahoo will rank you higher for being in their directory. It's possible that you might get some traffic too.

Social bookmarking will give you backlinks. It's very good to do Mixx and Digg, maybe Jumptags when you're trying to get indexed fast. You can do these backlinks easily or outsource them for cheap.

As far as other good strategies. Publicly viewable profiles are my favorite because they allow you to get the High PR sites the easiest. I will send you a PM on this subject.

    Hope this helps.

How do I know that if I can consider my site pixelgenio.com as established or not? I mean does that have any parameter like a minimum page rank etc. As of now I have a page rank of 2.

DMOZ should be free, but point taken.

      The answer to the question:
      "Directory Submission, How Often?"
      Is never.

All of the SEO techniques helps to get the backlinks to the site. And directory submission also helps for your site backlinks but try to submit on high pr directories and with providing the unique description. So this will help you to get better result. And not only try to get the more backlinks but try to get the more quality backlinks to the site as this will be more helpful for traffic even for the site pagerank.

In general imo directory submissions is a waste of time unless you're doing it properly.

Check this site out: http://www.wshlinkdirectory.com/Who can guess what the problem is? You'll get hundreds of sites like. Submission in this form is what I call blind submissions, spray and pray marketing. Out of 100 submissions you might get 5 links etc. which I think is a crap return.

Marketers abuse these directories which is why if you don't do it properly, you're wasting money (time is money right)?

The only way to do it properly is to jump the queue, and you've guessed it, you need to pay for the listing. So now your submission is guaranteed for approval.

Are most paid directories worth it though? Most seem to charge about $5. Is it worth paying $5 just for one link? Or do you only recommend major paid directories such as Yahoo?

You need to weigh you the pros and cons. For $5 that's a guaranteed approval, and you KNOW its a live link. Before I worked in industry, I used to do SEO the free way. I avoided spending money as much as I could as I was happy to spend TIME on it. In reality, all you're doing is making the process slower (admittedly I was learning SEO which is probably why I didn't want to shell out money).

You can replace money but you can't replace time. How much do you value your time is something you need to ask yourself.

Just look for established directories and submit a link. Make sure the page that the link appears on is indexed in Google and is not too many levels deep ie paginated link.

I paid for a manual directory submission service and out of 100 I got only two links. So I would say don''t bother with those types of directory submission.

Wait.., I heard that Google Panda don't like article submission and directory submission. So., how it works to make backlink while no body click our link?
