Niche sites, Keywords in URL and Market Samurai

I have been doing a lot of keyword research in MS and have been thinking about the keyword in the URL affects the rankings of a niche site.

We all know how important it is to have our main keyword in our URL right? But where exactly. When you look at the competition analysis grid in MS one of the important things to look at is if the competition is optimizing or not.

Thing is, when it shows a Y in the URL box, it doesn't necessarily mean that the keyword is in the main domain name. It can be several levels down, and although Google seems to respect the order and proximity of the keywords in a inurl: search, MS doesn't. It will still give a red Y as the keyword being in the URL even if they are separated or reversed.

IS mykeyword.com better than somethingelse.c0m/my-keyword/

Do you think Google weights the keyword in the URL depending on where and how it finds it - if so then MS can be seen in a different light?
