Hmmm, I don't think this topic has ever been discussed here before. :rolleyes:

For pure SEO, it doesn't matter. What matters most is the quality and quantity of your incoming links and the algorithmic relevance of your content and incoming link anchor text to the target keyword.

Domain age and incoming link age can be a significant factor if the .com has been around and active for 10 years while the .info was bought last week.

For non-SEO factors such as visitor trust, flipping, affiliate program acceptance and so forth, a .com, usually without hyphens or filler words, is the way to go.

Do not solely depend on the .com or .org. Firstly make sure that you have particular keywords in domain and then go for the other things.

There is no problem with .com or .org or the other ones but if you follow the rule of thumb then surely the .com is best.

For US based projects we have to use .com & for academy use .edu or .ac
All it depends on the project we choose.

I think for SEO purposes COM = NET = ORG not sure on how info ranks.

I would stick with the top 3 and don't think . name is any good.

For SEO it doesn't matter whether its .com or .net or .org etc. It only depends on the website you are into and the content of the website.

The general belief is:
- com is best
- org and net are ok
- info and name are crap.

And yes the domain extension is inside the google algorithm. Probably a very small factor, but just look at page one of a competitive SERP, and tell me what you see.

Don't label (.info) crap. They are cheap so they naturally get bad flack as being a spam TLD, but I see as many spammy and crappy sites on (.com).

(.info) purpose is simply for (infomational sites) and that's why I buy them. After a month I have just see two hit the first page for fairly competitive niches, it's all about backlinks. Stop living in the dark ages.

.com : It's the most widely recognized domain name.
.net : It is the best alternative to a .com domain.
.org : Good for non-profit organizations.

It really doesn't matter what TLD you are using, if the content of your site is good enough, a .org domain will rank better than a .com domain. If you have a good on page seo, google will not feel the difference.

I can rank a .info or .us. or .biz as easy as I can rank a .com or .org or .net.

It doesn't matter.

Search engines don't discriminate against your domain extension.
