different SERP position when logged in

I'm testing the SERP position my website gets from it's main keyword. I've notice a big difference in SERP so I thought I post a question about it here in the hope someone could give me some suggestions.

When I'm logged in to google my site is on #2, but when NOT logged in my site is on #282

Why this difference and what should I do to go from #282 to #1, just continue linkbuilding strategy with high authority backlinks (pr6 - p9, .edu domains)

any suggestions?

It may be due to effect of different data centers of google

  • This can be the reason of different data centers that are used while you access Google but i dont think it should show this much difference. I mean there is nothing that is related to being logged in or not.

What about webmaster tools? What figures do they show?

It's not #282, but #84 instead, anyway it's in nowhere as it's not on page 1.

      so it's #2 vs #84.

From now on when I test my serp position I first logout of google or for example use this link to test serp position:
Serp position - Seo Tools & Software

I take it as the official ranking for my site is #84 as that is what other people see it as.
This site is relatively new, been online for about 14 days. 5 days ago I posted about 7 high authority backlinks (dofollow) to this site.... Thought the site should be higher up on the rankings, guess google hasn't found all the backlinks yet.. so the backlinks aren't taken into account yet.

I will keep making backlinks to the site in the hope of better rankings, any suggestions are most welcome

SERP results can be quite misleading when you are logged in, they seem to show preference for your websites / sites that you visit regularly!

This is why it makes sense to be logged out as much as possible.

From the 7 backlinks I created 6 days ago I only find one listed in Yahoo Site Explorer. So maybe most of all the backlinks hasn't been taken into account yet.

Not sure if this will help you, but I am based in the UK - when I want to check my US position I go to hidemyass.com and use their online proxy to check for US based listings.

You can get other free and relatively fast proxies to other countries you want to check your SERPs.

    Works for me...

I used to have the same problem and even worse...

The reason you are at position #2 when you are logged in and on 200....something when not is...most likely because you click on your result...when searching for your keyword...

I actually tested that and since then I never click on my results and it improves my ranking...that's right...don't click == improve

Always keep in mind that every search query has a unique string assigned to it and google ALWAYS has a cookie on your computer...checking the order of what you search for...(hint - how do you think google gets the order and suggestion results when you begin to search for a word???)

Furthermore, by clicking on your result you affect the Local rankings...meaning that if you're in Paris clicking on your results on google.com then google understands that you're website is better for people in paris and not in the us....same thing with local...

    This is what I suggest:

Optimize your websites...and check the rankings, but never click it...also make sure to add &gl=US (US, ES, FR ---etc' depending on the country you want to get the most traffic from) in the URL (if you know a bit of php you'll know what I mean)

When I optimize my webpages I want to get real visitors...after all |I want them to buy, ..So why should I click on the result - I'm not a "real visitor"?

I know how my website looks like...and by clicking on the result it won't do me any good...

Just make sure you see movement in google...that's all you really need.

    Happy Holidays and Good luck
