Some websites with adult content have adsense ads... How?

I've seen it plenty of times. Sometimes I stumble upon a site that
has adult content, and I find out that it has adsense ads on it.

A clear example of this is none other than the social network
hi5.

I believe that they don't allow people to post nude pics, or pics
of themselves having sex, but people do it any way.

So yeah... there's plenty of adult content there.

My question is... how come a site like that doesn't get banned from
adsense?

  • Adsense will display on adult content sites. You just run the risk of not getting paid. The Adsense program is SELECTIVELY enforced and large sites that make big money for Google get the benefit of the doubt as Google knows there will be instances where content is not in compliance with policy.

I guess that goes against Google's regualtions, but not all the people follow the rules, right?

True.. Even if people do violate the regulations, it will not have an instant effect to their site. But we all know that google would know it for sure. We just don't know how will they be penalized :-)

ya, a ton of webmasters do not follow their policy to a T. There are so many publishers that it is nearly impossible to police all of them. I would not even chance it, there are many adult type programs that a person could use.

If this is so, then I wonder where they are getting the ads to display. Google does not take any advertising for adult site type stuff, as far as I understood.

But on my list of stuff to worry about, this didn't quite make the list.
