Blogging SEO vs Vlogging SEO

Hi, my cousin recently start criticizing me and tells me I should Vlog and not Blog. Anyways, he presents good points and since I know how to do both but have preferred blogging for a long time because it's easy.

I went with straight blogging because all I need to do is type, and I've learned so much about SEO with writing.

But vlogging is very enticing. Post less often, get easy traffic from YouTube, get links. But vlogging is also high-maintainence. I also keep losing track of my camera lol.

Here's my biggest dispute though...:

Which is better for SEO?
Blogging has good on-page SEO with words, but Vlogging has awesome SEO because it gets tons of links.

Very good question. I am just beginning a research study on this exact question - so would be very interested if anyone has real results. Here is what I have found so far.

It depends on the keywords you want to rank for. Some keywords tend to favor video content, while others have little to none. You can view this 2 ways. First, if the keyword has video then you need video to compete. Second, if the keyword has no video then maybe if you do a video you'll rank by default.

It does make for an interesting research project (but it will need to wait until school starts back up so I can assign some research assistants to it :-)

I supposed so. I've heard they sometimes seem to rank arbitrarily. I'll try it out, it couldn't hurt. I'll just need to find a camera, or a good microphone.

Indeed, I'll have to get on this. Hell, who knows? I could become a YouTube star =P
