Should I Submit Related Articles Or Unrelated?

If i submit related articles to article directories and link to my site, then it will be better for SEO?

Here's what i mean:

Let's say my website is about "laser printers". Does that mean i should submit articles about "laser printers" to get the most out of backlink value? Will this help me in SEO terms?

What if i submit unrelevant articles to article directories for that same site? Will this reduce backlinks value and won't help that much in SEO?

Links for relevant web pages weigh a ton more for rankings than from pages that are irrelevant. So the answer is a big yes.

Irrelevant websites can help some but not even as close as the other way. So if you are making articles then I wouldn't waste time doing it the wrong way.

      Hi Boris,

I think that this will be one of those answers where both points of view are correct.

I have submitted many articles that are not relevant to my link. These articles are purely for the backlink only and seem to work fine.

Obviously if I want traffic coming fom the articles I make it relevant in that case.

So, to answer your question, I have submitted irrelevant articles and still get credited with the backlink.

Despite what others will say, there is no definitive answer on this question.

All I can say is that from personal experience, I have no problem ranking my sites very well in google with irrelevant links (for each type of links). For articles, I usually just outsource them to be written on any topic on the planet, and then link to my website. The result? the sites seem to rank as well as when I tried to use only "relevant" articles.

So, do I have a problem writing a article on the NFL, and linking it to my site on hamsters? Not one bit and it helps for backlinking purposes.

Irrelevant links are of no use and may instead harm your website, so better be relevant

Stop making this crap up. May be harmful? Utter BS.

I along with many many MANY others on here rank sites well without any attention paid to relevancy at all. I am happy to get links from a hamster site to my IM site.

As for harmful, there is just no frickin' way. If this was the case, I would just blog spam my opponents sites and I would be ranking #1 tomorrow.

Most of this relevancy stuff reminds me of the the stories of crazy monsters that pass from generation to generation in certain tribal villages around the world. If people keep on saying it long enough, people start to believe it.

using a software and getting backlinks from irrelevant sites may be kind of effortless.. there need not think too much.. but knowing that the site is irrelevant, i just cant waste my efforts there.

The OP was asking about irrelevant articles, not links.

Another pont to keep in mind is that other website owners who scrape articles from EZA will publish your article on their site giving you more backlinks.

For example, I submitted an article back in late Nov about keyword research and had links in the bio to a site about perfume and role playing games. Totally irrelevant.

This article is in both the "most viewed" section but more importantly in the "most published" section of EZA. I am sure this would not have happened had I written an article on perfume.

I decided that I had more chance of my article getting published by others if it was about a topic that is popular, like SEO and keyword research. Writing articles on very popular subjects like money making, health, sex etc will get published a lot more than an article on perfume in my opinion.

        Food for thought....

          Totally agree with this.

I used to submit absolutely relevant articles based around my niches. They took me forever to research them and write them, and although they got me high click through rates, the traffic wasn't anything huge, after 2 or so weeks the ranking of the article would drop from top 5 to a lot lower.

Since I have been writing more generic articles, I've noticed that although my CTR has been lower, I'm getting more backlinks from sites that are publishing my content.

My answer is to mix and match, do a little bit of both.

I do disagree with what Jai wrote above about irrelavent article marketing harming your serps, maybe he didn't understand the questions.

          Just my £0.50

If you write about a subject you have first hand experience and are semi-passionate about it, you can really produce a lot of articles quickly.

If you can even vaguely connect the two you have a win-win.

Do you have a favorite travel spot or hobby? write about it and and connect your keyword link if possible.

If people think it is interesting they may even click on your link.

If your article gets published, you pick up valuable backlinks for websites.

    Hi there

I would say that the article should be based on keyword only, it should be related to your link doesn't matter but your web page link should be in your article for increase PR.

For the sake of getting his site high in the search engines, he will need, among other things, quite a few backlinks.

These backlinks can come from any article on God's green earth. The topic of the article is irrelevant. The anchor text in the link is..... for SEO

  • DO not submit off niche topic to article directories. For instance you are selling laser printer and you are submitting articles related to mortgage then do you think that the article readers can definitely turn to your website to find information on laser printers?

It is just a simple common sense.

You could do both, I still do.

It depends on the whether I am going for super tiny niches or larger,
    more general niches.

It also depends on what article directory as well (some have tough rules
on this in the bio box).

I think that you should always go for related when possible, but submitting to unrelated articles is also worthwhile. Nothing wrong with mixing things up.

I'm new and am just wondering, what if I was to get say 150,000 unrelated PLR articles and submit them to article directories with a link to my website, would this help my SERP. Also what if I was to use software that automatically spun articles, would this help also.
