Adsense on an Informational Site

I'll be setting up a new site in the near future and I won't be selling anything on it - it will be a lot of "self-improvement" info that people will reference. This is really a passion of mine - so the info will not be from any sources, just things I've learned over the years.

All in all - this will be classified as an informational site. However, I will have adsense on this site - just wondering if anyone has an informational site w/ just adsense on it and how well did you do on it as far as CTR.

I can see people who write reviews on products and they put adsense on their site and get a high CTR - but I haven't heard anything about the ppl that has a mega-site that is pure info and them getting a high CTR w/ adsense.

I am by no means an expert (actually, far from that), but I'm sure you can get high CTR in whatever niche you are. If there are plenty of relevant ads, targeted traffic and good ad placement, I'm sure you'll do well.

If you can write your own content on a topic that you like and are knowledgeable about, you're already miles ahead of most people. =)

I have an information website and when I implemented Xfactors advice my CTR went up from 4% to 14%, more or less. It fluctuates between about 13.50% to 14.20% actually.

      I wish you every success!

"Infotainment" sites generally don't do well with Adsense. Since the visitors aren't buyers they will either ignore the ads or click them to "tip" you. Since the "tip clicks" don't convert for advertisers, you can end up with your account being smart priced, resulting in much lower payouts or public service ads being displayed.

For this kind of site you'll be better off selling ad space to other bloggers, promoting highly related products that you might be able to interest an info seeker in over time (something you can't do with Adsense without violating the rules) or promoting your own products, such as an ebook or private membership area.

    Hi,

What I would suggest is to do some keyword research into the area you will be writing about. The great thing is that becuase it is a passion of yours, writng articles and content will not be a problem. So to work a bit smarter and not just harder, compile a list of keywords either using Google's keyword tool or whichever seo tool you use, e.g. MNF or Market Samurai and work from there.

You will easily be able to highlight which areas are lucrative and which aren't.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

BTW Im not sure I totally agree with the AdSense earning not being so high for Informational sites, it depends on your niche etc, but I havent ever seen a problem, I have some very high CTR from my sites, most of which ARE information based sites.

  • I would recommend you to build info sites as these are the best to handle and you will surely get high CTR but only in the case if you put your efforts.
