Wordtracker and Google Adwords Keyword Tool

I have a small problem. I've made a research a while ago and found a good keyword... on Wordtracker. By Wordtracker's opinion that keyword is getting around 300 searches per day, that's around 9000 per month.

But, if you search for that same keyword with the Google's Keyword tool you get "not enough data". Now I know Wordtracker is not tracking searches by all major search engines but only smaller ones...(their names are not important).

But just to try it out, I wrote an article with that keyword and got it to the first page of the Google. (took me some time) And in 1 week after posting it I got around 100 visits (this is not so bad because the first few days Google didn't even know about my article, in the last 5 days I got more than 50 visits).

So basically there has to be at least some traffic for that keyword, while I'm not getting the results Wordtracker is showing.

This is confusing to me, I also checked Market Samurai and got the information that there are 0 searches for that keyword (the same as Google).

Now what am I to believe? Google and Samurai show 0, Wordtracker 300 per day, while I'm getting more than 0 but less than 300.

What would you think of that? I doubt Google would list me for any other keyword because this one is a very long one. (6 words )

What tools do you use and believe to when doing market research? I thought you can't go wrong with what others are using, I've been using Google Adwords Keyword Tool and Wordtracker, and a few days ago tried Market Samurai as well.

Any smart comments would be appreciated.

    I'm guessing you are using the free version of WordTracker?

    As you say yourself, WordTracker is reporting on other search engines, and not on Google. I'd suspect your 6 word phrase may have little or no traffic for the entire phrase on Google, but may have traffic for parts of the phrase.

    You also cannot equate the search volume on these tools to what you're going to receive. Unless you are in the #1 position, you would receive a tiny fraction of the total.

    I've written a very long article on this subject but I'll give you the very
    short Reader's Digest version.

    No keyword tool is 100% accurate.

    If you're looking to make sense out of the differences between them,, you
    will drive yourself crazy.

    Here is what you need to do.

    Pick ONE.

    Use it!

    Track your results with it.

    Eventually, you will see patterns and from these patterns you will almost
    be able to predict what kind of traffic you're going to get (depending
    on competition) almost down to the click.

    Personally, I use Google's tool because it was easier for me to get a
    handle on the results. You will see some definite patterns with it that
    stick out like a sore thumb.

    Wordtracker is fine too. Again, pick one, use it, get used to the results
    and then you'll be able to figure out in advance how well a keyword will
    perform traffic wise.

    Of course this says nothing about conversion and profitability because
    some keywords are not going to bring you any kind of income.

    Anyway, hope this helps.

    Bottom line: Don't drive yourself nuts with keyword tools.

      I would like to support Steven here no keyword tool is 100% but in all sincerity google adwords tool is a very useful tool.

      This little magic of google has helped me in no small measure particularly where you will need to check keywords that are being searched for websites.

      I would encourage you to try your hands on it and also other tools like spyfu and the likes

    No keyword tool is 100% accurate.
    I agree w/ that. I use Google - but guess what? I also look in my log and see who's been typing in what to get to my site. I then take these KWs from my log and optimize various pages and try to get them ranked higher in my niche.

    Don't totally rely on these KW tools.

      You need to have a group of keywords rather than just one. A set of 20 good keywords will have winners and losers but overall you should get traffic whatever keyword tool you use.

      Keyword research tools are pretty blunt instruments. Use them as a guide and check your stats to see what is working for you.
